  1. Its not another US holiday is it?! Too quiet...
  2. What are the chances NYU have notified already but nobody who got in posts here? High?
  3. Sigh, the quiet morning hours Europe time are the hardest. Especially since I'm exhausted as I can't go to sleep at night until I am certain business in the US has closed and no more acceptances will be posted. Even on a Sunday. Roll on 9am Easter Standard Time.
  4. Hi NYU-ers - just thought I'd see whether anyone has made up there mind for or against NYU - waitlist-waiting is driving me mad!
  5. Anyone any updates on waitlists etc?
  6. ugh, finally rejected this evening. That's one waitlist and a heap of rejections. Sigh. I clearly aimed too high.
  7. Anybody else hear anything? Sigh.

Anyone have any info on acceptances here? Wonder have they all gone.
  9. Not allowed - too early! Stay positive!
  10. SocialGroovements, I wasn't sure whether to share, but I also (double gasp!) didn't apply to a programme (UCLA in fact) because I missed a deadline.

Another result posted. Anyone have more info?
  12. Glad to see someone else keeping Berkeley in the "schools that haven't released all their acceptances yet" category - keep the faith!
  13. Don't suppose anyone bit the bullet and got in touch with Berkeley about whether all acceptances have gone out?!
  14. This is my actual thought process for the past month - we really are so predictable!
  15. berkeley berkeley berkeley. i feel like new information on acceptances is becoming an addiction!
  16. ANLstyle I wanted to 'like' this since it was so positive and optimistic! I'm going to try that attitude too:-)
  17. And not sleeping all night for fear I'll miss something - time difference is killing me, all the action is the middle of the night my time!
  18. Well done jen, that's fantastic. I have never had so many pointless feelings like "what does waitlist mean" and "but there's never berkeley waitlist postings - does that mean something?" I'm considering reverting to my non-smart phone to avoid checking emails ... well, permanently. As jen said - good luck to everyone waiting!
  19. SocialGroovements, I totally agree about Irvine, I think it sounds really exciting. I have a sense that in the States people who work on that stuff know how good it is, as well. Since I plan to move back to Europe to work I felt I'd prefer somewhere a little more recognisable on this side of the pond, but otherwise I would definitely applied there. Methods wise, I'd like to get into ethnography and participant observation, but they are I would say challenging in terms of practicalities within a PhD. I've no experience of quant stuff, but I'm more open to them than I used to be - I like maths though, which is a good start.
  20. Good to hear those perspectives. I was looking for a combination of political sociology with cultural sociology, and I'm also interested in ethnographic methods. I went for Berkeley, Northwestern, NYU, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Harvard.
  21. (Stealing Slumgullion's idea!) I'd be interested to hear where other people interested in political sociology / social movements applied. I don't hear it talked about a lot as a subfield.
  22. Fair point Slumgullion! I've applied to Duke, Cornell, Berkeley, NYU, Columbia, Chicago, Northwestern and Harvard (Social Policy). Interests in political sociology and qualitative / ethnographic methods. At this point my major regret is not applying to places which accept on earlier dates, I'm not sure I can last much longer!
  23. I am spending a lot of time wishing Berkeley was in New York. In some ways I'm hoping to get accepted by either Berkeley or the New York schools I applied to, and not both, because I don't think I want to be stuck making a decision between academic fit and, well, New York!
