  1. haven't heard anything but BC gov's restart plan says if transmission rates remain low then post-secondary will be a mix of online/in person
  2. Has anyone set up a group for SFU? Would love to meet some of the cohort!
  3. Sure! A few reasons are 1. Depth and breadth of course offerings- more required courses than the other programs, option to take additional electives, the range of required courses touch on a variety of topics important to me, and between the required courses and elective offerings I can focus on quantitative skills 2. location (volunteer/research opportunities and plenty of practicum choices in van if I don’t want to relocate for the summer) 3. Capstone- I don’t want to do a thesis and I think this is a great alternative 4. They offered funding 5. Social justice perspective. This is a big one for me personally and career wise, although if you want a purely quantitative career it may not be as important if you'd like to discuss further feel free to message me, good luck w your decision!
  4. I'm currently living on a Pacific island!
  5. I'll be moving to Vancouver as well (assuming international flights are running by then haha) If you think the program is better suited, I wouldn't let it stop you and you're not alone!
  6. I'm accepting SFU's offer and will be declining Guelph and Queen's for those still waiting
  7. Amazing! Will you be accepting? I just received an email from the graduate studies office with details of funding, transcripts etc but nothing from the mph department. Let me know if you receive any more details from them
  8. Hi everyone, I just checked my SFU portal and was admitted (no email so check your portals)!
  9. It says admitted as of “03/30/20” so sometime today
  10. My Guelph portal was updated to admitted but I haven’t received any emails so might be worth checking for those waiting!
  11. So sorry to hear that! Weird that they're contacting applicants on the weekend- did they email you?
  12. If anyone wants to discuss Queen’s shoot me a message and I’ll add you to a chat on here!
  13. FYI I finally received a rejection from UBC today!
  14. I also received an offer from Queen’s this morning and have until April 7 to decide
  15. Nope! My portal says the same. I was very disappointed when I woke up to an email from Queens and it was just asking me to fill out a survey haha
  16. Hey heres a link for mcgill grad housing https://www.mcgill.ca/students/housing/fees-applying/graduate-downtown-fees I paid about $500/month for my room off campus near mcgill. Student housing tends to cost more than off campus. Just be aware that Quebec has its own immigration rules which can complicate things. I think you can study in Quebec and then afterwards if you want to immigrate to any province other than Quebec you apply for PR under a federal immigration program, but if you want to immigrate to Quebec then you'd have to get approval through their provincial immigration first then the federal program. Not 100% about that but I'm dealing with a Canadian PR application right now and those are the rules in my category, so I don't think where you study matters but you'd have to consult the official immigration websites
  17. Hi @anoroC I've lived in Montreal and its super affordable if you're worried about money and you don't need to speak French! I wouldn't worry about rankings as they don't really matter in Canada (especially between UBC and McGill). But if your main concern is getting PR, maybe research if living/having residency in one province is advantageous over the other in terms of immigration when you apply for PR after your masters? I thought the return of service agreement is based on which province you do the residency training, not where you get your masters but i don't know much about that aspect. Good luck
  18. thats great news! whats your profile?
  19. Hey! There is an application status button under Quick Links or below step 6. Doesn't give much info but I imagine this is where you'd see an update once a decision is made
  20. Congratulations! Do you mind sharing your profile with us?
  21. Based on past threads it seems like the earliest for Queens is mid March and Guelph late March/early April, slooooowly getting there!
  22. Fingers crossed for all of us! UBC's deadline was Jan 15 so I don't think we'll hear back until at least March
  23. Hey everyone, with applications all submitted now I ended up applying to UBC, SFU, Guelph, and Queens. Anyone else for these programs?
  24. Hi, another 2020 applicant here! My ultimate goal is to work internationally and so far my top choice is McMaster Global Health, and I'm also looking into Western, SFU, and UBC. I'm interested to see how satisfied past students are with the 1 year programs or if they wish they'd had an extra year to consolidate knowledge and skills. A bit about me: BSc Honours Biology/Health Science, 3.93 OMSAS cGPA/11.8 for Mac Some research experience including final year thesis Studying+volunteering abroad No professional work experience in health Can't wait to hear from more applicants
