  1. Hi all - I just dropped by to update the forum on the Psych Grad Wiki but saw this post, and wanted to allay a few concerns with some information. I'm faculty at an R1 psych dept - we will be accepting PhD students this fall. That right now isn't in question; we need graduate students to TA our classes (UF is fully funded; students receive a stipend + tuition waiver, in exchange for TA work) and assist in research. The real question is how many, which depends on a lot of factors. For instance, we want to prioritize funding for students already here, who may need an extra year given the impact this has on the academic job market. That might mean less funding to admit new students. But some of us have funding from grants or from startup, which aren't already allocated, and which can go towards recruiting new students. Those factors - how much money is available, what pot it's coming from, and whether current students need those funds - will vary a lot from department to department, and from university to university. So while the number of positions may decline or vary, there will still be labs accepting graduates students this fall. None of our accepted students are deferring, and none plan to (I was on our admissions committee this year, for the department), and I haven't heard of that happening elsewhere. This is for funded grad programs - most PhD programs, a few master's programs, etc. For programs where you pay tuition/no stipend, I would not expect this to affect grad admissions much if at all; the universities need the revenue from paying students, master's students included.
  2. Hello all - congrats to those who got into grad school this past go-round! We have reset the Psych Grad Wiki for 2021 admissions; stay tuned there for posts from faculty actively looking to recruit PhD/PsyD/master's students to their labs. In addition, if you are looking to gain research experience prior to grad school, we have updated our section on post-grad lab positions. Researchers in psychology looking to recruit paid positions as lab managers and research assistants post to this page. There are currently ~ 8 fully paid full-time positions on the site looking for folks interested in making a 1-2+ year commitment. There may be more soon; this is a busy time for recruiting of these kinds of positions, and will likely continue through the summer, with another burst in August/September as folks hear back about their summer grant applications. People commonly move for these positions, so don't write it off if there's nowhere hiring nearby at the moment - researchers are open to applicants from all over and will take your application seriously, regardless of the location you're applying from.
  3. Ever wished you could look up who's taking grad students? Or find paid lab manager/RA positions, all in one place? Now you can! http://psychgradsearch.wikidot.com Psych Grad School wiki is a new resource that will let you hone in on who's actively looking for and accepting grad school applicants this season. It's modeled on the Psych Jobs Wiki - a long-running (and well-regarded) website that helps PhDs in psychology locate and apply for faculty positions in the field. Our hope is that this site will do the same for folks looking to apply to grad school or post-bac positions within psychology. Many faculty have already begun to post and share grad student and other paid positions in their labs; we anticipate that more will do so in the coming days, as information goes out over listservs, and reaches folks beyond social media. We also recognize that many undergrads may be looking for paid positions, either in preparation for grad school, or in the event that grad applications that don't go quite as planned. With that aim in mind, we've also added a section at the bottom for lab manager/research assistant, etc., positions - anyone can update these and post about new openings you've found. We encourage you to do so. A one-stop crowd-sourced resource makes the job market more transparent and better for the community as a whole; the editing process is quick and easy. See a job posting? Share it on the wiki!
