Congrats, GuateAmfeminist, and go kick butt at UT-A! I'm always heartened to see a fellow Latina in the discipline.

Me too.... trying to rekindle the romance desperately.

Just declined an offer from Davis. This one hurt a lot more than the rest. Good luck to those on the waitlist for this wonderful program...

Hi Ivandub, I'm still working on narrowing down my options... but I'm hoping to announce my final decision by the end of March. *fingers crossed*

Just declined an offer to USC's English Lit. program. Good luck to anyone on anyone on the waitlist (if there's a such thing)!

Chicago and Duke English are wonderful programs, Dorinda. Please revel in your acceptance to them; it really is no small feat to be admitted.
How did everything go at Duke? I'm assuming I'll be seeing you in Chicago in a few days!

"The power to guess the unseen from the seen, to trace the implication of things, to judge the whole piece by the pattern, the condition of feeling life, in general, so completely that you are well on your way to knowing any particular corner of it--this cluster of gifts may almost be said to constitute experience, and they occur in country and in town, and in the most differing stages of education. If experience consists of impressions, it may be said that impressions are experience, just as (have we not seen it?) they are the very air we breathe. Therefore, if I should certainly say to a novice, 'Write from experience, and experience only,' I should feel that this was a rather tantalising monition if I were not careful immediately to add, 'Try to be one of the people on whom nothing is lost!' "

Thanks, Enzian; I am! My performance during the interview was pretty uneven, and I was really bracing for the worst. It's very nice to know I have this option. Whew. Hope you hear some great news, too!

I got the basic package as outlined above and a nomination for a special award, which should be announced shortly... I'm sad I had to drop this great program from the list, but I'm hopeful that one more person will get an acceptance. I wish I had more info. to offer, but that's pretty much it. Best of luck!

I've been admitted into Duke's Literature Program!! I can't believe it...

Hi Timshel, I've been there and know exactly what it is to feel as if your POI has forgotten about you or is simply just not interested in your work. Nothing could be farther from the truth, I've learned. Just keep in mind that professors lead extremely busy lives, meeting publishing deadlines, advising students, attending conferences, etc. Anyway, one of my POIs (a very high-profile theorist) took about 3 weeks to contact me after the program sent me that initial heads-up, but the wait was totally worth it. I still get butterflies in my stomach thinking about it. Anyway, the point is, you'll get the call, and it'll be wonderful!

Just declined their offer. I hope they transfer the fellowship to the next person down the line. Please let it be someone on this thread! Good luck!

Bump. This thread might come in handy for some of us.

RIGHT! Just with more... training.
Some of them have had decades of training, at least that's what I remind myself to keep from going insane.

Thanks, everyone! I'm simply over the moon. I was not expecting this at all--or most of my acceptances for this matter. I have a lot of thinking and soul-searching to do in the next several weeks. UPenn has made this decision all the more difficult for me, but what a happy problem it is to have.
After this is all over, I hope to share some insights I've gleaned through this application process with anyone thinking of applying next year. I've always considered myself an academic underdog in many ways, so I sincerely think that some of my experiences may give others hope.
Aeplo, my specialty is in the rise of corporate culture and immigrant fiction at the turn of the twentieth century. What's yours?
Best of luck to everyone!

It was actually a voicemail message quickly followed by an e-mail. I got the call less than half an hour ago.

Oh, my god... I'm in!! I can't even think straight right now.

It's official. I will be joining the wonderful Woolferine at the University of Pennsylvania this year. Absolutely no regrets!
