Does anyone have an opinion about this? I have the exact same question.

I would say just apply a second time if you're okay with paying the fee again. Often times step 1 of the application process closes well before their stated date due to volume of applications. It would suck to find out you didn't get in AND miss the deadline for step 1.

It took me three tries to get into their online MSW program and I definitely look back now thinking it would've been such a good idea. And honestly, I really don't think assessors will think too much about your confidence; it's not really about that and I'm sure they've seen many applicants' second and third application (like me)...if they even remember! They get over 200 applications for each cohort!

Laurier emailed me (last name "T") on May 17th and I got waitlisted for the Foundational MSW p/t online program for Fall 2022. I've accepted another grad program already and will be doing that. I hear you, the wait has been ridiculously long.

To those who got in, a big congrats! And to those who didn't get in or got waitlisted, there are always other intakes or schools that will welcome what you bring to the table. Wishing everyone all the best!

By foundational, do you mean the non BSW online part time program?

I applied for that too and still haven't heard anything...

Sure! I’m reading the comments and I definitely don’t have several years of experience lol! I got my BA in Psych, then did a post-grad certificate in Mental Health and Addictions with Humber. For my internship, I volunteered with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse for a couple of months. I then taught educational programs in provincial correctional facilities for around 2 years, with both women and and men. After that, I worked at a halfway house with women (that were on parole/probation) for around 4 months, then jumped in to insurance for about a year. I hated it, so I relocated to Nova Scotia and I’m working with at-risk youth now (for about 6 months). I don’t think it’s necessarily all about the years of experience you have..it’s also about what kind of work you did. With that being said, I still thought that I would need more experience to get in!

I hope this helps! Good luck everyone - don’t give up! :)

Congrats Nabsterz78! Can you share a bit about what you wrote about in the personal statement?

If it's any consolation, one of my best friends is an RSW and back when she did her MSW (at Western), she had a placement with several people who were waitlisted at Laurier and then got accepted in. You are certainly right -- the program is one of its kind - all we can do is wait, hope for the best, and keep trying! Fingers crossed!

I really hope so! I got feedback on my application after being waitlisted the first time, and I thought I had a good chance after that...so I'm really curious what it takes to get in.

Anyone who received an offer, please let us know your background so we know what they're looking for!

It's going to be OK! My thought is - they must like our applications if we got waitlisted... MSW programs are super competitive and there isn't enough room for all of the great applicants! Sending positive vibes out into the universe for everyone ... there will always be more intakes to apply to!

I appreciate your positivity, alysha! I don't know if the waitlist will ever move, you know? This program is the only one of its kind in Canada (for non BSW applicants, online) so folks must be applying for a reason.

I recently moved into a managerial position at work. I wonder if I need to sit tight in this role for at least a year and then try applying again. ?

I just emailed Laurier about this May and she said they are slightly behind schedule.. but they are still aiming for January

Thanks for being so on it and sharing your findings with the rest of us! I've been anxious every morning right before I check my email =| fingers crossed it comes sooner rather than later.

    Good luck everyone!

I emailed my WLU  enrollment advisor and she said that "... applicants should receive decisions sometime after January 11th. You will be sent an email letting you know a decision had been made regarding your application and instructing you to check your LORIS. Where your application was previously located - a decision will be posted there. Ensure to check your spam/junk mail folder"

Thanks so much for posting this! My heart is racing just reading that decisions will come out possibly next week! Fingers crossed for everyone.

Would you be able to share your GPA/experience you have?

Sure! I have a 3.7 GPA, and volunteered in several women's support groups for a few months each. I also worked at a women's centre for a little over a year until funding ran out, and have since stayed on the board. I was also on the board of a women's health centre for two years. I volunteered as a tutor in a program that supports youth in a low-income community, and that program was expanding every year, so after a year or so of volunteering, I got a job with them as a case manager. Had that job since and it's been almost 4 years.

Hi All - congrats to everyone who is preparing for a Fall start!! I am currently on the waitlist for Laurier's MSW Regular/ Online program...just wondering if anyone had heard of waitlist movement at Laurier? It is taking all my willpower to not call the office and beg them for a status update on my application (which I'm sure would not help the situation...!) ?

Ahhh...finally found another person in the same boat as me! I'm looking to hear if anyone has heard of the wait list moving as well! I really wish I at least could know where I'm standing on the wait list, that way I can either keep hoping or just start an application for the next round...

I sent an email and was informed we will be hearing this month...

I got an offer to be placed on the waitlist and accepted.

Anyone else hear from Laurier regular part time online program?
