  1. i also received this email. do you think this means we have it? seems pretty cruel to tell you not to reapply and then not give you the money, but judging from their rejection letters it doesnt seem like the W-G is particularly sensitive.
  2. Anthropology PhD, Stanford (CASA)
  3. i heard the same - that no casa faculty will be leaving and that the program itself shouldnt see many changes (on the casa side at least). im optimistic, and i agree that most of the negativity is prob. due to the way the news was communicated. ive accepted, and i say good riddance to columbia whose admissions decision is still "in the mail" (kind of sad that it's april 8 and they still havent told me whether im in or not. speaks volumes about department cohesiveness and the respect they give their students)
  4. did the columbia acceptances come by registered mail? please someone tlel me! i have registered mail waiting at the post office from a university and they wont tell me from which one!
  5. im also curious about this... id expect its a bit too early for the dept to really know anything, no? whats the mixed info youve been receiving?
  6. phoebed - theres not much funding at the new school even WITH the deans fellowship? eek! im torn on the new school, to be honest, i like the direction of their program, their lecture series, their location, etc. but im unsure if i want to spend 5 - 7 years in a place without the greatest resources. i went to an excellent school that was severely underfunded for my masters program and found the dearth of resources (particularly in the library) to be really frustruating, esp. after attending an ivy league with all the resources in the world as an undergrad.... my first choice is stanford b/c the professor profiles perfectly fit my interests - but im on the waitlist with my fingers crossed right now so we'll see.
  7. hi all, i was wondering what everyones first choice schools are and why? and also, did anyone apply to the new school or know anyone whos currently in the program and what do they think? thanks!
  8. ack! 10 to 20 people is so many. did you get an interview before or after you received the email? and who was the interview with? i did email back immediately to say stanford was my first choice...but who knows how much good that will do. im just hoping that the rrecently announced anthsci/casa merger will cause those who were accepted to go elsewhere. im also curious what attracted you to chicago, michigan and stanford? now im thinking i shouldve applied to michigan, but chicago seemed very old school to me, no?
  9. does anyone know how many students are usually put on a waitlist for anthro phd programs? just curious b/c im now one of 3 people on this board who was waitlisted at stanford, which makes me think they put more than 5 on the waitlist, which makes me nervous.
  10. to the stanford waitlistee...im curious what email you were sent and when? was it a notification of "alternate status" saying they were impressed with your application and if you had funding let them know but you need to wait if you want funding, etc. etc.? i got this email and am going to spend my days nervously twitching until i hear anything further... i got rejected from berkeley today. havent heard back from columbia or the new school. what other programs did you apply to?
