  1. You should keep the class/minor... languages are extremely important and one B/B- on your transcript will not catch the adcomm's eye. Also, having an average grade is not the same thing as failing.
  2. Hi all, I realize that some on waitlists may want a sense of when they could hear back about spots. I feel like most admits won't decide until after the admitted students weekend; I am therefore copying the earlier list sent out about notifications, and am hoping that people can share their knowledge of when these weekends might take place (approximate date is fine/better). I am copying the ones that I know - please add dates and schools as you know them! Northwestern - mid-February Stanford - WashU - Brown - UNC (MA) - Emory - Cornell - Yale - Johns Hopkins - UCLA - beginning of March Princeton - end of March UC Irvine - UC Berkeley - Bard - Rice University - Harvard - none (to be organized by the student) USC - end of March
  3. Hi @aloy, waiting is truly agony! I recently started seeing someone to deal with the stress, and to identify healthy coping mechanisms I can rely on during grad school. She gave me some form of the sheet at this link to fill out when I start to panic - and it's actually really helped! It gives me a finite amount of time to identify and explore how I'm feeling before I move on. She has also encouraged me to write down (yes, write it down!) a list of at least ten things I can do when I'm stressed, and at least five people I can contact. Cooking is at the top of mine, because it includes all of the senses - leaving none for fixating on admissions results! I also run, and do yoga when I can. Starting the research necessary for your doctoral project may reignite the dwindling motivation you mentioned. I poked through some archives this month, and in doing so I remembered why I love art history, why I have succeeded thus far, and generally made me feel more in control of my life. If you can't access primary materials, you could start putting together your lit review (organizing that spreadsheet/Zotero folder will also be a fun organizational game). I hope that at least some of this is helpful! Best of luck
  4. Hi @renforall, I haven't self-reported yet, but I also received an acceptance to USC and wanted to clue you in. The DGS said that acceptances are early this year because the department needs to focus on their search for a new African Diaspora and/or Latin American tenure-track position. Personally, I think this new position had a lot to do with my acceptance, because I focus on the colonial Caribbean. Best of luck with Northwestern and the rest of your schools. I obviously don't know much about your area of interest beyond being in the early modern, but it's so great that you had an affirming conversation at Northwestern - they have killer early modern faculty and is such an exciting place for critical theory
  5. @homie_de_lettres and @kaufdichglücklich I'm also in the race and visual culture boat! Did you both up applying this season?
