I am not sure what you mean by design, is it a BFA, or design theory? In general, I would say that given my experience Art History is one of the most exclusive disciplines in the humanities, i.e. they have a very specific way of doing theory/history/things, take extremely long to finish the PhD and would expect you ideally to have a rigorous and proven background in Art History before embarking on the PhD, especially with top ranked programs...So in that sense, a BA in Art History or at least an MA is ideal.

Hello everyone! I think I will be going to UCLA for PhD as well...But, yes, I was also a bit worried about the stipends, especially for the first two years, as they are able to give more money for year 3, 4 and 5, but not in year 1 and 2. I'd say that my concern is over the on-campus housing (Weber Terrace), which is very expensive for an university-owned housing compared with other institutions in similarly costly areas, and for my first year, it would be difficult to find housing elsewhere before arriving since I am an international student...

Not sure about sciences and engineering, but in terms of PhDs in the arts and humanities, chances of funding for non-UK/EU international students are minimal, at least not from the schools. You may consider if there is any US governmental funding schemes. Oxbridge, though, does have more funding opportunities than many other UK schools, but still far less likely than US PhDs.

I would guess so, although I am not exactly positive...I don't know if they wound up inviting 8 this time and admit 4 like they did before, or if they somehow waitlist those who are not invited to campus...

Interviewed with Stanford TAPS weeks ago too and have not heard from them. I heard that they usually invited a few people to visit the campus and admit about half of those...

Congratulations on the offer!! I had an interview with Berkeley, and was told that the admission committee would meet on this Wednesday and that decisions would be communicated within the next couple of weeks. Also have one interview scheduled with Stanford, they framed it as a "semi-finalist pool"...

Thanks! Although sometimes it is possible that schools do not send out interview requests at one go!
