7. I feel like it is a really bad sign since others have heard from some of them. I kind of feel like a total fraud for even hoping and spending all that time and money preparing for this…the fact that I haven’t gotten news at all just seems so much worse than people actually acknowledging the application even for rejection.

I have not gotten a result for any of my schools.🙃🙃🙃🙃 Not one. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃I think I must be 🙃🙃🙃🙃the worst writer alive. Or my applications just went into the ether and never got read 🙃🙃🙃🙃

I used old professors (who themselves said it had taken a couple of times applying to get in) and a coworker. I think most programs use letters of rec in the last stages of decision making. Anyone that can speak to your temperament and work ethic would be okay if you don’t have a professor available. Also, mine used the same letter as the first time I applied so it most likely won’t be a bother to ask them again. I think they understand how these things work.

You should definitely share good news here!!! Congrats that is a major accomplishment and shows they have real faith in your talent as a writer. Celebrate!! If you don’t have anyone around you that gets it, I will cheer you on from here. ??? (and no I have not heard for Iowa poetry)

I also haven’t heard anything back yet and I applied to 7 places ?I know one rejection is coming but haven’t actually got it yet it’s driving me insane

I did this last time. The only thing you can do is see how this year pans out and, if you have to reapply next year, use what you liked about this school to gauge other programs you could be interested in.

I think there are separate adcoms for each program deciding who gets in. They are different admissions processes. Not sure if they will know if you have applied to both or not.

We have a couple places in common! Remind me, are you applying in fiction? I’ve already forgotten. I am a poet but I would KILL to get to learn from Mona Awad at Syracuse lol. Did you read any of her books? Bunny is one of my favorite books of all time.

I never got an interview request from them and also haven’t heard anything. I wish they would just send a rejection already.

Haven’t seen anything so far for Montana fiction on draft.

Also for CNF people: Someone on Draft just recently got an email acceptance to WashU if anyone applied there, too. Not sure how many people get in or how staggered the results are or anything just thought I’d let you guys know. Maybe it is more likely to be an email than a call for some schools?

Sorry to hear. That program in particular seems like it was really tough since there were so few spots available and probably a million applicants due to the dual MFA and MA. Hang in there ❤️

Ok the waiting is killing me… wish I could just turn my brain off lol. I know my time would be better spent doing probably anything else but it is sort of a rush to see people get accepted and hear back and wonder what it means for my own chances… Also, it’s just nice to be surrounded by people who also have similar hopes and dreams knowing that this is still just the beginning of where our lives and writing careers go!!

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you decide to do both an MFA and a PHD? Just wondering how the programs differ.

I also applied to 7 schools. I applied to all of yours except Johns Hopkins and Brown. I never got an offer to interview for Amherst so I think I was rejected. Someone who was accepted before said all acceptances and waitlists have to interview to make sure they can get dept funding. Did you get an email?

Thank you for sharing this ? If anyone else has any great quotes/book recommendations to help people through rejections and uncertainty, I would love to hear them. (Also: @feralgrad when you say 2:2 do you mean you teach 2 classes for 2 semesters? 2 classes over 2 years??? My brain is mush ?)
