  1. Same. Yale seems so unrealistic to me that I keep forgetting I'm actually waiting on them, too. My brain just kind of skips it.
  2. I'm anticipating we might hear from Yale today? They heard last year on the 15th, which seems a reasonable deadline to impose on your admissions committee, but this year the 15th is a Saturday on a holiday weekend, so it's possible we'll hear from them today. If not, I'd estimate next Friday at the latest.
  3. ^^A thousand times this. No matter what happens, we press on. Thank you for sharing. Congrats to all the CMU people. I didn't apply, but I support you all.
  4. It was nice to vocalize. I'm glad it helped.
  5. I'm doing a lot better emotionally this year than I did last year. I think it's really important to keep busy in whatever form that means to you personally. I have a playwriting workshop, but also a job and in my spare time I've been text message canvassing for the primaries. I think it's also important to keep working on your writing. I had a reading shortly after all the apps were due, which had me pretty down on my portfolio sample because the weaker elements of the script were so plain to me after that. But I was offered a production of that same play earlier this week out of nowhere, so I'm feeling a bit better about my chances, again! I guess my biggest advice is to remember that your application was the strongest it could have been at the time you submitted it and it's out of your hands now. It's also important to realize that no matter what happens, it really isn't the end of the world. Last year, I crashed and burned and then went on to have a great summer/fall that wouldn't have been possible had I actually gotten into a program, and ultimately didn't regret it much since this year's application was stronger for it. That's not to say I won't start having a heart attack when interview requests and the like start coming in, but I think I won't stake so much of myself into it this time. Good luck, guys. We are all worthy and deserve the best education around.
  6. @newengland1 Thank you so much for all this. I actually also met a current DDW MFA student this weekend through one of my recommenders who said a lot of the same things about the program, but doesn't yet have the perspective of life after the program. Hearing from both of you has made me really glad I applied. I'll probably be DM'ing you later today because there is something I'm feeling uneasy about, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for all of this!
  7. NYU, Hunter, Yale, Columbia, and Brooklyn. I'm hoping to stay in NYC. I read your above post about interviewing for Hunter and Yale as well--were these all last year?
  8. Good programs--waitlisted by Brooklyn is good omens going into this year, so I'll bet it's your year.
  9. @anyajessie I'm in the same position as @kevinmalone and second everything said. Please see my BC-related rant on the previous page, though, because it's important and they're repeat offenders about application material loss. It's a good program, though. Where else are you guys applying?
  10. Hey everyone, I just wanted to reiterate something that's been said on this forum before. Stay on top of Brooklyn College if you're applying. I called them yesterday to sort things out--they changed their entire application process basically mid-cycle this time, and I'm a re-applicant, which makes it really tricky. Being a re-applicant, I had to ask them to add new things to my file (new statement of purpose, portfolio, etc) And I needed to know if I had to mail it (like last year) or if I could email it. And suddenly, their website says everything is supposed to go through their application system, which has NOT been my experience as recently as September. Anyway, long story short: I called and my file was in shambles. They didn't have one of my recent letters of recommendation filed (it was there), for one--and I basically had to go down the list with her to make sure anything else was in order, and I'm still not 100% confident I won't get a call/email later this month about missing files although she assured me everything was now in order. To their credit, I should say that I didn't have this issue last year, and my second application fee is waived because I submitted last year. So, that's a nice policy. It's a good program, but their admissions office can be a pain. Be careful.
  11. Hey guys. I was hoping to stay off this forum until at least Feb because once you're here, it's like being in a waiting room but they've already started calling in people who came after you and it basically stays that way until like March. Long story short, second time applying. I really messed up when I applied last year through a whole host of missteps, but I'm in better shape this year. (Yale, NYU, Hunter, Brooklyn College, Columbia). I also have a reading coming up next week, so between these deadlines and getting that squared away, I'm basically constantly stressed. But it's good to know other people are going through the same thing. Good luck everyone.
