  1. Krzysztof Matyjaszewski is going to eventually win the nobel prize for his polymer chemistry research.
  2. @BCchemie I was accepted at Ohio State with stats not as good as yours. I applied under physical chemistry and there is one person I know for sure is very good and I would work for. I know nothing about the program or it's reputation overall. I applied a week late and was accepted in less than a week. 3.6 GPA 3.8 Chemistry GPA 470V 780Q 4.0AW 750 CHEM GRE A summer of research experience and 3 normal letters. 2 were DWIC and 1 was a research advisor.
  3. What do you call impressive research? I'm working in a lab at my university in the same area as the university I'm applying too. It's in an area that I imagine isn't very accessible to undergraduates, especially in chemistry. I started in the summer and I'm still doing grunt work, but at least I know what's going on in the lab. My chemistry GPA is a 3.75 and I think my recommenders will write good things because they said they would. I bet working in one group is starting late is going to hurt me too.
  4. So I'm applying to chemistry grad school, and my GRE scores suck. I have 470V, 780Q, 3.5A, and 750 Chemistry subject. I spent absolutely no time studying for the GRE. I'm just too busy. I didn't even look over practice questions. I'm applying to top schools like the University of Michigan and Penn State. Do you know if these places are going to look at my Verbal score or subject score and just throw my application in the trash?
  5. I've been looking at the University of Florida for the PhD program in chemical physics and it's difficult to find admission or degree completion information. Does anyone know where to find this or what UF admission standards are like?
  6. I’m going to be applying to graduate schools this Fall. I’m interested in Physical Chemistry. I’m trying to stay in the Pittsburgh or Columbus area for family reasons. I’m applying to Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburgh, West Virginia University, and Ohio State University. I have a preference for Carnegie Mellon and OSU. I want to hear from people who applied to these schools and people who applied to any graduate school with grades similar to mine with the results. I have a math minor completed. This Fall I’m going to betaking Inorganic Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry (graduate level), and Partial Differential Equations. My overall GPA is a 3.6. Math GPA - 3.6. Chem GPA – 3.7 Phys GPA – 3.5 All Science – 3.64 Right now, I’m concerned mainly about my grades. I’ve never gotten a C, but I’ve gotten a lot of B’s in important classes. Fortunately, I did well in Physical Chemistry both semesters. I got a B in Differential Equations, Calculus III, Calculus Based Physics I, Organic Chemistry I,II, and Analytical Chemistry. I currently don’t have research experience, but I’m going to get experience this Summer and continue in the Fall. I’m wondering if I should have started earlier, but I just didn’t have time with classes and I only want to do synthetic work if I absolutely have to. I wouldn’t have been able to do anything I wanted without physical chemistry. I haven’t taken the GRE, but it isn’t something I’m concerned about because I’ll be above the threshold and it’s not something schools really care about.
