Is anyone else waiting to hear back from Columbia, NYU, or Hunter? I applied to all three before February 15.
I am! I applied for NYU feb 15th and heard back on the 27th. However, I’m still waiting on columbia, which is my top choice ? sent in my application on the 15th as well and was told I would get my notification last week of March/ first week of April. (Pre-virus). Still waiting and so nervous seeing everyone get their decisions! Also their phone # isn’t working so just super long waiting game here.

Greetings to all!
I'm an international applicant to MSW 2020 fall. I'm lucky to be accepted by ColumbiaU and Umich, and I'm struggling to choose from them.
I cannot go on a campus visit due to this epidemic. As I search through the Internet, I really feel comfortable with the atmosphere and culture in Umich, as well as the environment in Ann Arbor. However, ColumbiaU is one of a kind throughout the world with a famous Ivy title. It is really hard for me to let it go.
Moreover, as MSW students we must go to field study. I'm kind of worrying about the NYC Metro if we need to take it every day...
Because I'm an international student, there are not very large differences between the two concerning money issues, and I didn't receive financial aids either.
After graduation, I'm planning to work in western America or Atlanta, so I may not stay at either Michigan or New York...
So any ideas for my situation? Thanks a lot!
Hey! I’m from Atlanta and live here now so if you need any advice let me know

I applied on 2/15! Haven’t heard yet. My friend applied earlier and already heard back.

Any UGA, Florida State, or Florida A&M MSW applicants? If so, have you heard back from any?
I’m UGA!! My friend who applied before me heard back already and I think someone in this thread who submitted their app feb 12th(?) heard back already? But I’m still waiting. I applied on Feb 15th.

Hey there! did you get these amounts originally or after you appealed for more aid?
Originally! I called to appeal because I didn’t know what their max was and he was basically like “you got the max we give out” and refused to give me instructions for appealing. I got my financial aid breakdown today (around 3 weeks later) and it was just tons of loans & a 3k work study!

I got into NYU today with a 10k scholarship and Fordham with 3k. I want to ask for more, as both schools are still a bit too much out of my price range. Has anyone received merit scholarships higher than this from either schools, or gone through the process of asking for more?
I got into NYU on a 17k scholarship. The max they technically give out is 15k and that’s strictly based on application. He said they make a couple exceptions and will give out 17k and 20k ones rarely. It’s such an expensive school so I completely understand your dilemma!

Columbia told me to expect a decision last Friday or early this week... But nothing really came out and it's already Thursday. I hesitated to call or email since it's both Spring Break + city lockdown for both NYU and Columbia. But I agree this wait is just much pain.
When did you apply? I didn’t even realize it was spring break for them.
-
I just called Columbia to check on my application and their admissions line went straight to voicemail ? it’s 2PM on a Thursday. This wait is killing me! Especially now that I won’t be able to see any of the schools in person.

If anything we might just doing a version of the online program. I would be surprised if schools remained closed by then, but who am I?
All I can say is.. I’m not paying this insane tuition for some of these universities without getting the full experience! For an online degree I might as well stay in state and get it at my local university lol. That’s atleast my opinion on it. No way I can pay 24k a semester to sit on a computer!

I applied one day before the deadline. They didn’t message me the login either, so I emailed their IT department 10 days after I submitted my application!
This helps so much- thank you! How is the financial aid offer vs tuition looking? They’re much more affordable than other universities and in-state but ?

On another note, I heard back from UGA today. I got in! I’m excited & waiting for their financial package
Omg I applied to UGA too! When did you submit your app? I submitted on the deadline and still haven’t even gotten my login for the results portal.

No haha. i didn't get to observe a class, not sure why it didn't pan out that way. Just visited today. Did generic grad visit. I went to CU after but didn't get to do a tour because I waited too long to book. It actually pushed my pref towards NYU, so i'm stupid torn and have been crying for like an hour trying to figure out how I feel. It also was pouring rain and actually freezing when I got to CU, so I'm going to go back tomorrow or Sunday to reevaluate how I feel.
Update?? I saw on the other thread you chose Columbia!

I mean they offer like a ton of discounted or free tickets to shows to students, they have specific grad student studying areas so they don't have to be around undergrad all of the time, their library system seems really well conducted, etc. It just seems well run and orgranized which is something my undergrad never had lol
How did you schedule your tour? Like through the social work school?

Hi all!
I'm a little late to the game, but are there other applicants who applied to CU for the Feb. 15th deadline?
I did! They told me end of March/ early April. Praying that’s true because I’m making a trip up there first week of April, which is my spring break.

I'm honestly so irritated with CU...I applied Nov 1st, I hear nothing except for social impact live emails until March 2nd when I finally call them. Then I coincidentally get an updated portal yesterday, the day I finally called? Like if you knew I was waitlisted why couldn't you have told me, I find it hard to believe they just made the decision yesterday. It is so annoying it took four months just for them to give a "maybe". Ugh. Kept me waiting SO long just to wait some more. And I don't wanna sound paranoid, but CU was the only application I disclosed that I have Borderline Personality Disorder because I assumed they would be chill about the disorder (it is SO stigmatized) because of the DBT program, which I would've wanted to do, which I talked about in my essay. Now I'm thinking I shot myself in the foot by disclosing that. I'm regretting that essay so much rn. Just needed to vent.
Also, CONGRATS to everyone that got in!!!! You got into a freaking IVY!!!!
I’m so sorry. I know it must be mad frustrating to wait that long. I’ve only been waiting a month or less & I’m going stir-crazy. As far as what you mentioned in your essay- that is your truth!! Stand in it. You want a program who knows your strengths & can play on them to develop you as a social worker. If not them, I’m sure you’ll get accepted to another amazing school and be grateful it happened that way. ? sending you love!

General question!! Did everyone whose been accepted so far do an interview? Or are those on an as-needed basis?
