  1. Hi! I also received 16k yearly from Columbia, but this was after a financial appeal (using letters from NYU and University of Denver who awarded me 16k as well per year). I appealed with a 25k scholarship which came from U Chicago, Colmbia said they could not offer more based on their available funding , my FAFSA, and my application. I think it's worth a shot, especially if it's your first appeal to them and every financial situation is different so they could be more open to offering you funding based on your stats.
  2. Currently deciding between University of Washington and Columbia. University of Washington is currently cheaper (they provided a smaller scholarship that Columbia but tuition is cheaper to begin with). Columbia provided a scholarship but tuition is still more expensive than UW, however I applied and received an assistantship at Columbia that provides room and board so cost of living is somewhat taken care of. It is making it a hard decision. I am currently on the West coast and a cross country move during a pandemic seems like a bad choice but pre-pandemic Columbia was my top pick. Wondering if anyone else is struggling with decision making right now? And if you committed to a program what was your biggest deciding factor?
  3. Hi! I got accepted 2/28 so a little later but when I reached out about Financial aid the person said I would need to reach out to FinAid myself but to give it at least 2-3 weeks before one was created. Additionally, for department scholarships/funding they said those would be sent at the end of March.
  4. Hey! I’m not sure. I hear PSU has a mixed strength of macro and micro. I’d definitely ask admissions more about it. My general take though is if you want to focus on this you might be better suited to doing a counseling degree. I have a friend who did her MFT and the clinic she’s at now has social workers and counselors. They’re always joking how the counselors want a more macro systems lens like the social workers and the social workers want more grounded theory but effectively are doing the same thing. I definitely think you’ll be more methods like that and deeper dives in counseling but clinical does touch on it! Food for thought in decision making.
  5. Hey! The Program is the best in Oregon for social work. PDX is fairly affordable comparatively to other cities, unsure about those in Hawaii but for sure cheaper than Seattle and most likely SD. I know a few faculty in the program and they're very strong in clinical practice for families and youth. As well as their macro faculty is very strong. I recommend reaching out to Admissions, they connected me to more faculty and are super knowledgeable, responsive, and helpful.
  6. Thank you so much! Congrats on your acceptance as well!
  7. Just got my acceptance yesterday as well!! On my birthday! The best present. GPA: 3.31 Experience: ~7,000 total. 4,000 paid. 3,000 unpaid (in college) Job: assistant director of equity & inclusion for a college and previously a program coordinator at a social services agency
  8. Haha seems like we might switch places! I have been in Portland for a few years now and love it but have friends in Seattle and am ready for a change of pace. But we will see what ends up happening, PSU is awesome and PDX is more affordable in general. Good luck tomorrow!!!! You'll be great. I do not know a ton about admission but I've been told decisions usually start going out around early April but I hope they're sooner in your case!
  9. I’m pretty conflicted with UW and PSU. I’m hoping for UW because I think id enjoy a move out of Portland. But the in state price of PSU is so appealing! And that’s awesome!!! I work at Lewis & Clark right now as a staff member, the CMH program is amazing! I applied to NYU, Columbia, and University or Denver - accepted to all of them currently. But also applied and am waiting decisions from U Chicago, PSU, and UW. I don’t think I’ll attend NYU. I’m waiting to hear about an assistantship at Columbia which would make it a more viable option cost wise. University of Denver, with the aid I received, would be a similar price or slightly lower than UW so it’s definitely in the running. So some options which is great but truly waiting on UW and PSU. More info than you asked for lol so sorry! Have you hear about LC interviews?
  10. Hey! I applied for Fall 2020 as well. And yes totally a competitive program, weirdly it's not as high ranked as some programs but has a lower acceptance rate? I think because it's truly the only option in Oregon and fairly inexpensive. I talked to one of the admissions folks and usually decisions get released around March 15th but since they come out late usually we need to let them know my April 1st so like two weeks to decide. I just hope I hear from UW by then as well.
  11. Same!! I just hope they aren't actually waiting until the mid/end of March date they gave.
  12. We got this! I hope we both hear back soon, but appreciate not feeling alone in the wait.
  13. I'm planning on attending right now but if I accept another offer before then might back out and just end up using the flight to visit friends in the area. Denver is a top option based on aid though!
  14. Ugh. I am so nervous. Also applied to UW on the 2nd and have not heard anything. Been accepted to Columbia, NYU, and Denver but really would love UW as an option as I am on the West Coast. Crossing fingers they get back to me soooooon. Did anyone see an update in their portal before getting an e-mail notification?
  15. Hi folks! Been reading this the past few days (tried to avoid forums until I had some good news as to not stress myself out! lol). But I wanted to jump into say to folks who are worried about committing before hearing from other schools should definitely ask for extensions. I asked Columbia and NYU to extend my deadlines (both originally wanted around March 3rd) since I am waiting on a few schools who might not release decisions til mid March (Portland State, University of Washington, U Chicago - but hoping they come sooner since clearly people have been hearing back) and they did. Columbia has given me to the end of March and NYU gave me until mid march. I really appreciate how Denver has given until April 15th for decision, honestly seems more equitable and understanding. So if folks are worried about making a decision before hearing about other schools and/or aid I really encourage just asking!
