Weird, I haven't gotten a phone call or an email. Maybe it's based on focus/concentration?
-
I don't, I filled mine out WITH my application, so I would contact them just to make sure. (I'm assuming you mean for University of Washington)
-
Definitely me, but I'll have a rabbit with me. Might possibly go to University of Washington but I'll know in a couple of weeks since we're supposed to hear back on their Financial Aid by then.

Grad school tribal icwa... or family?

I personally would say career in this instance, for multiple reasons. 1. I think that the benefits of working for a few years to pay off school now and to have that experience with you outweighs that of a couple of years of "support" for your children now. I put support in quotes because they also have different supports if you stay; greater financial support. 2. While children always come first, I think it sends a powerful message to show your children that investing in yourself, even though it comes with some sacrifices, is worth it. You will feel more confident in yourself I imagine if you have this added to your resume, have school paid off, and have possibly saved up some money by working at a job that pays more than what you've been currently living off of. I gather this based on how I'm reading you talk about the experience. 3. It's clear to me from your writing that you're wanting to stay for the job, but feel guilty about putting yourself above your children. Yet I think that in a sense, you are still putting your children first; improving the quality of your financial situation, your career, and empowering your sense of self will all go a very long way when it comes to both how you parent and the example you are setting for your kids. I think either way it's a tough call. I also don't have children, though I am a step-parent (partner has two little ones). I also think that no matter which decision you make, you might feel that sting of, "Did I make the right call?" No matter what, following your gut will always be the best call. -
Just got my admittance email from the University of Washington!!!!! Hopefully more of you hear back from them today too!!!!

Has any one had success applying for Financial Reconsideration having already committed at a school? Or is anyone trying right now to do just that?
-
Clinical! Emphasis in Children and Families!
-
Ahhh I so wish I was able to go!! I'm all the way on the west coast so I couldn't make it with work and funds and such, but I've committed and can't wait for next year to start!

Hey! Sure, don't mind at all. Major : Applied Mathematics GPA : 3.65 Community Service : ~3,000 hours, used to be a high school math teacher and I'm a Youth Advocate for a program that serves runaway and homeless youth.

Absolutely, finances have to play a huge role when we're going into a field with no money lol. I have committed, but I am still waiting to hear back, mainly from Chico and University of Washington. Chico is more financially reasonable but I'd rather go to a better school if I don't have to take out TOO much for loans. :)

Hi hi! Not accepted into Berkeley but I've definitely taken out loans before. You MAY definitely still get things from FAFSA, the only part with the departmental fellowship means that Berkeley itself isn't going to give you any money. FAFSA is a different story though. I don't even know my FAFSA info for BC yet and I was accepted last month, so we'll see. Usually that info doesn't get released until March-ish. For taking out loans, FAFSA will offer you a certain amount of UNSUBSIDIZED student loans (since you're a grad student) and perhaps a Pell Grant depending on your EFC (expected family contribution). If I were you, I'd give Berkeley a call to see when your FAFSA info will be released to you.

Hi Paul! I think it really depends on what you're looking to get out of your MSW degree. For example, I'm interesting in more one-on-one interactions as opposed to things like policy and case management, so I'm going to have a clinical concentration. Obviously every area of social work has macro aspects (case management, system management, etc.), but depending on what your overall career goals are a more generalist approach or a clinical approach will suit you better. Are you looking to work with individual clients? Or are you more interested in an overall or global perspective of how a client fits into the overall system? Disadvantages I can see is if you go to a school with a more generalist approach when you know that you want to work on an individual basis, you might lose out on additional education in those regards. Same vice versa. To be honest though from every therapist and social worker I've talked to, you learn the MAJORITY about social work from your internships and practicums.

None. Ugh, I check my emails like 5004234723487298 times a day, which definitely doesn't help. I hope we hear soon ...

How did you submit a scholarship appeal to BC?!
-
Hello everyone! Any one else accepted into BC and considering going?? I got a decent scholarship from them but the idea of living in Boston, even though BC is my dream school, sounds more expensive than I can stomach. Coming from the West Coast so the idea of living on the East Coast is also a bit unnerving. Thoughts from any one?? Also, while I understand the fewer loans the better, what would you consider to be the cap on a "reasonable" amount to take out for student loans for a 2-year program at a good school like BC?
-
This this this! I have a tattoo on my wrist and a big one on my back and no one has said anything in all of my teaching interviews when I was a teacher before. If teachers accept it, MSW programs should as well!

Yahoo! More BC people!

Ugh I want to go to the admitted students day but just can't afford it as I'm all the way in California. It was initially offered to me in my acceptance letter. I didn't know that you could ask people to re-review your financial aid package, is it usually successful?? More again would be great. lol

I got my notification last night and was unfortunately denied. So decisions are being released!

Heard back from UCB and BC. Accepted to BC with a 40k scholarship, and denied to UCB. Waiting to hear back from U of W and Chico State. Goodluck to everyone! Anyone else accepted to BC and thinking about going?

Also applied on the 2nd to the 2-year program and have yet to hear back. Hopefully more people start hearing soon.
