  1. I believe most unis send out more offers than they want students, and the waitlist is in case too many of their first choice picks decline their offer to fill the cohort to a size they want. UBC’s historic enrollment info for all their graduate programs is found here
  2. Keep in mind that UBC purposely over-admits with the expectation that around half will decline (last year 61 offers were given out for a final enrollment of 33).I hope you get off the waitlist and join the cohort next year, but also be prepared to not get in.
  3. Santa sent out the info in his broadcast email, you can view it here
  4. UBC also just released that larger classes will be online and some smaller classes will be in person with individual faculties coming out with their plans for specific programs in the coming weeks. Not sure how this affects us MPH people yet since class sizes are fairly small ?
  5. I chose a MPH over MSc because there wasn’t one specific area of public health that I wanted to focus on, and an MPH allowed me to stay more general and get training for a variety of public health jobs. Working in public health research for 2 years I knew I didn’t want to continue on to get a PhD, so a well connected practicum program component was attractive for landing a job post-grad. I talked to people that went MPH->PHD though so it is possible, also there are DrPH programs that are becoming more popular as well for further advancement.
  6. I love my uni but UBC was late to move classes online when the outbreak started, so I expect us to follow what UofT does. As soon as one uni makes a decision for fall semester, the others will probably will hop on board. We will probably have to see what American programs such as medicine that start in July will do before we get a better idea.
  7. Our acceptance deposits ($250) were due on April 8th and course registration is June 2nd, so people still have time to consider deferring/dropping. I know other SPPH masters programs (not allowed to name them) are accepting people from the waitlist that are local applicants, because they are less likely to want to defer or decline their offer due to covid, so waitlist rank doesn’t really matter. Hang tight!
  8. The universities definitely do not talk to each other, so if you really can’t decide and are ok with paying multiple non-refundable acceptance deposits go ahead
  9. I've heard radio silence from UoA thus far...they are really keeping the suspense high for y'all
  10. domestic, first-gen university student with abysmal grades in first and second year at UBC due to mental health issues, stepped it up big time in years 3-5 after seeking treatment. Graduated from UBC Science in 2019 and was a research assistant at UBC SPPH since 2017 and exec in a public health club at UBC for 3 years, and published 2 public health related journal articles. Stats truly aren't everything (got rejected from McMaster Global Health last year and McGill MScPH this year - ouch).
  11. Got accepted to UBC MPH this morning as well!! For those still waiting - it's not over until it's over! UBC was my first choice so I withdrew my UoA Epidemiology application. good luck to those still waiting! you can do it!
