  2. Hey! The UBC SLP department hasn't announced anything yet either. Winnie (the program coordinator) mentioned that they wouldn't be sending out much more information until June, once the course schedule is set. My guess is that we'll have a mix of online and in-person classes. The Faculty of Arts sent out an email today announcing that, while certain degree programs would be exclusively online (e.g., BA, BFA in Creative Writing), others would involve some in-person components (e.g., Bachelor of Social Work, BFA in Acting, etc.). Have any other departments at U of T announced decisions about the fall semester?
  3. Generally speaking, I believe PIs will often involve their PhD students in writing letters of recommendation! When I was preparing to apply for grad school earlier this year, the PhD student I work with most closely explained the process to me. Obviously it may be different, depending on the lab, but it never hurts to ask. Basically, I wouldn't worry too much about how well the PI knows you, provided they consult somebody else in the lab (e.g., a graduate student) who can speak to your abilities.
  4. Yes, there is a UBC facebook group! Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ubcslpclass2022 There are also a few discussion posts in the graduate student community forum: https://community.grad.ubc.ca/ And for anybody feeling discouraged, agreed, don't give up! Speaking as somebody who wasn't accepted last year, application season rolls around again pretty quickly. My advice would be to reflect on those feelings, check in with yourself to see if this is still something you want, reach out to your support networks... then make a plan. Also, take any advice (including mine) with a generous grain of salt! You know better than anybody else what you are capable of, and even so, you might surprise yourself. Stay safe everyone!
  5. Hey Mackenzie! I'm also new to Grad Cafe, and like you I'll be attending the UBC SLP program this fall Although yeah, fingers crossed we actually get to attend class in-person!
