  1. Well, there's the (expected) Harvard rejection. Just waiting on Berkeley to also say no, and then I can move into the next stressful phase, picking a school! In the end, I got in at: University of New Mexico Southern Methodist University McMaster University Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!!
  2. Has anyone heard anything from Berkeley? I know they did some interviews back in January so I'm 99% sure I'm not getting in, but seriously, how long does it take to say no? Please, I just want some closure on this ?
  3. Nothing from Berkeley either, and I'm archaeology, but it was a super long shot, so I'm not expecting anything, but I'm still crossing my fingers!
  4. I'm looking into the prehistoric Southwest US! Looks like we're both in hot deserts! Good luck to you too!
  5. Also arch! Brown was on my initial list but I didn't hear back, although I'm having regrets now that I didn't apply to more places ? Looks like next week might be a bit busier in terms of results based on previous years, so here's hoping we get some good news!
  6. Hello again! All of your advice is just as good here. I really do need to focus more on exactly what I want to research/theoretical lenses (which I would be much more familiar with if I went anth rather than history). Our library is currently closed, with the only exception being picking up books that aren't digitized anywhere, so I'll have to go on a JSTOR plunge. I'll admit, I worry too much, and think too many steps ahead. I will try to focus on narrowing things down and refining research questions, and also on chilling out a little ) Sometimes I need a bit of a reality check, or someone just telling me to stop being a dingbat, which is of course extra difficult when we're all locked up inside. So, thanks again ?
  7. I've been waffling back and forth about whether to do history or anth for my entire post-secondary career, but one area I've been exploring lately is historical archaeology. I don't know why, but in the past I've always brushed it off for some reason. Now that I'm thinking on it harder, I feel like it might be the perfect mix of material culture, written sources, and theory for me. I've been looking at the Society for Historical Archaeology's listing and trying to find schools that fit my interest (colonial/early America) and so far I have: William and Mary Cornell Brown Boston U UPenn My worry is a lot of the people in my area of interest at these schools are older and more likely to be retiring soon, and therefore less likely to be taking students. Does anyone have any other suggestions/ideas or just notes/thoughts on historic arch? Also, stats if they helps: BA in Anth/Classical Studies with a minor in History, GPA 3.95/89.9% (Canadian school) MA in Anth in progress, received a CGS-M (Prestigious national level scholarship) for funding GRE: 168V, 150Q, 5.0AW
  8. Well, at least that's one less thing to worry about! Thank you so much for the extremely detailed advice! A lot to mull over, but mulling is one of my talents. I have a feeling that my thesis is going to be much more library based than initially envisioned, so I will avail myself of what I can find. I will also keep the solid STFU advice in mind. Thanks again!
  9. Sorry, I thought I was clear in my post, but I won't be applying until F21, for a start in F22. I've seen the announcements about Brown/UPenn, etc
  10. Hi everyone, So, I'm pretty sure I'm going to make the (I know, very, very, very, extremely stupid) decision to switch to history. With everything that's happened over the last year, I figured I'd rather be happy now since we're all likely to die in climate disaster/pandemic/global thermonuclear war with in the next 20 years or so, so what the hey. I have a BA with a double major in Anthropology and Classical Studies, with a minor in History. My overall GPA was 89.9%/3.95 (Canadian school), and my history GPA was 87.6%/3.87. I'm currently doing an MA in anthropology, which will likely wind up with a similar GPA. My GRE scores are 168/150/5.0. I have basic reading ability in Spanish, and very rusty French that could be polished up nicely in the next year or so. As suggested by my comments above, I am from Canada, but I plan on doing US history. I don't have super specifics of a dissertation project to propose yet, but I won't be applying until the next round, so I plan on fleshing something out over the coming months. My interests lie in colonial America, women's history, and material culture. So far the schools I have written down are: Harvard Yale William and Mary Brown Boston University UPenn UVA Delaware And some Canadian schools (that don't necessarily have my exact fit, but can use the MA as a transition to PhD programs if I get no offers) Western WLU Carleton Once again, I know the drastic state the field is in, but really, I think this is where my heart is. If it comes to it, I know people at a technical college and I can just be an HVAC technician or whatever, but this is for me. Any suggestions on schools/next steps?
  11. The person I talked to said check back later today or tomorrow, so if you're UBC, I'm guessing it's a system wide error. I would err on the side of caution an wait until something gets fixed.
  12. I got an offer too and was also very confused, so I called my school and they said it's some sort of problem and should be this year's dates. They're working with on it right now! Either you also got an offer at Waterloo, or the entire system dun goofed.
