Has anyone here applied to Global Minds? Also, if anyone has done an interview (regardless of which program) do you have any tips/advice? Thanks

Hi there! This is a good question and also something I asked my mentor about- I didn't have withdrawals but did have weak grades early on in my undergrad. I am also sorry to hear about your losses, that sounds very difficult. My mentor told me there are multiple ways to argue that you will be successful in grad school (i.e. that your psychology gpa in particular is high, that your grades have consistently increased and you showed resilience, or in your case, you can specifically explain your situation and what impeded your academic performance). My mentor also said that the academic consideration section should not take up more than a few sentences in the SOP (but also depends on the word count of course). Also, as you said, those grades were for non psych related courses (and it is only two?), so I don't think grad schools would focus in on that too much; they would surely be more concerned about your grades in upper year psych courses! I hope this helped a bit and I wish you all the best for this application cycle!

Hi thank you so much for this, it makes me feel a lot better! And yes it's so understandable, they probably have so many emails to shift through and a lack of time! I won't let it discourage me I will just keep sending emails (and follow up emails) and do the best I can! And congrats on your admission by the way, it is an amazing feat! ❤️

Hi everyone!! I haven't been on here in a while lmao, hope y'all had a great summer!! I feel sad because I still haven't found potential supervisors to help back my applications- I hope it's not too late! I either don't get responses or they tell me they aren't taking new students. And as for the other profs, our research interests don't align sadly has anyone else had similar issues or is it only me lol ❤️

No worries at all! Since you've already gone through the first round, now you have more experience than before with the application process and know what to expect (I assume) but yes it's definitely understandable that you may be burnt out/less motivated after the first round- that's very very normal- just keep going as best you can and make your application as strong as possible, but also enjoy the journey! All your hard work will for sure pay off and the outcome will be very rewarding, regardless of what field you decide to go into! And feel free to DM me as well if you ever need to rant- I'm always available to talk/rant haha

Hi thank you so much!! This is super helpful to know! I definitely struggle with asking questions to interviewers afterwards so I need to prepare for that part- 5 committee members sound quite intimidating! I need to fine tune my interview skills haha And thank you also for the article, I appreciate it

Hiii I don't have any advice sorry! But I just wanted to say that you're not alone! I am also Canadian and just finished my 4th year of psych, and my overall GPA is so low (however, my last 2 years is pretty good). You have amazing experiences!! I am sure they will help make you more competitive, even if you have a lower GPA. Also, if I'm not mistaken (i don't know which schools you're applying to), most of the universities are removing the GRE requirement again for the 2022 round thankfully lol I think there's still some that require it though- I will not be applying to those that require it lmao Anyway, I wish you all the best in applying! And don't be hard on yourself, admission into clinical psych and even other psych programs are insanely competitive, so let's just do the best we can

Hiii Congratulations that you got in to McMaster, you must be so excited! I was just wondering how the interview process was for you? I am not sure if I'll even make it that far tbh but I guess I'm just curious about the questions they asked and I guess what answers the interviewers are looking for. Also, if you have any tips on writing statements of intent, that would be much appreciated! Congrats again on your accomplishment!!!

This is great advice, thank you so much. I wish you all the best with your application! It would be a dream for me to get into a masters program in psych, even if it would not be clinical- but that's what my aim is for now. It's also great to hear that you work well with your supervisor, that's definitely an important aspect, especially when they'll be mentoring you for years.

Hi there! As far as I know, most programs here require you to complete a PhD to become a psychologist, but maybe you could check out Laurentian's program which has a terminal masters program! We talked about it above if you want to check it out^ I want to do a masters and a PhD in clinical psychology if possible, hopefully I can get in one day ?
