I've been getting so many wonky calls myself! I had one from Toronto the other day, and I was like, you know what, professors could have kept their original numbers, I still have my out-of-state one, you never know...and it was definitely a spam call. It's definitely the season to be bamboozled into those calls!!

Thanks so much for your reply! It really helps. Actually I have just applied for Princeton and Oxford this year-really so stupid of me! I have never expected that it would be so much competitive this year. I am also trying to be optimistic but just can't help thinking that how far another rejection from Princeton can be while the first one form Oxford has arrived. Should there be anything good happen to me, make an offer happen!

I applied to a lot of places myself, but still think I should have done more (I didn't do any U.K., Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand PhD applications, though if I manage to be able to do it next time and can get funding to do my PhD in one of those places, I think that's going to be my game plan for the next round if I don't manage entry anywhere this time). Crossing my fingers for everyone who's still waiting! ?

Just got an informal email from a potential advisor at NYU saying that I got in! Official response should arrive in the coming week. Ahhhh, I'm so excited!
A special thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum, you made the experience of applying and waiting for responses much more bearable! Hope I get to meet some of you in academia down the line

Yes this forum has definitely preserved a lot of my sanity as well lol, it's good to be able to check in with other folks about the process

I would message the DGS and ask that person if they think the committee should be made aware of those changes; that way, you're not messaging the advisors directly, but going through the person who is handling a lot of this. They may let you know that it may not make a difference or they'll get it to the committee members if they think it will. I think it's ultimately up to you, though. I, personally, would just email the DGS and let them know the situation even though you know the committee members may be currently discussing the admissions, but felt you should update them on your current situation. 

Maryland interview went well, I think (I hope)! It felt pretty short (30 min), but the department was super helpful and friendly, I got all my questions answered, etc. Fingers crossed for funding ... they said it'll be probably be the week after next before they have an answer for me, so it's just the waiting game at this point. The suspense is just terrible! 

Yeah, I had a feeling that that might be the case in general and this year is much lower because of more applications and probably more applicants than a usual year in general because many people might be getting "go to grad school because the job market is bad," which happens a lot (and something I heard in 2008, alas). 

Oof. Sorry to hear about Michigan, and definitely agreed on what everyone else has said about the ridiculous applicant-to-opening ratios this year. It's kind of bonkers, honestly. Hope that some acceptances start coming through for you soon, though! 

Thanks, @screwdriverfemme! I have yet to hear back from five more schools, so I'm crossing my fingers. At this point, I just want to know, I'm so anxious from waiting, lol.

I just received my University of Chicago rejection; was recommended to the MAPH program.

Yes, yes I do. I didn't apply to a lot of programs and so far I've been accepted by one and rejected by another. But now I get to wait two or three weeks or possibly more on funding info for the one that accepted me.

And thank you all for sharing how you've been dealing with the wait. I feel much better now, I think I've accepted that anxiety is part of the process lol
 
 

Anxiety is definitely part of this process. I just wish mine would calm down, lol. I hope folks hear back from people soon! I'm not sure if anyone I know heard from Berkeley yet, either.
