  1. yeah. it is just bizarre for Bard as they aren't known for having amazing facilities. It is definitely not an ideal situation. but of course its not the fault of the school. I just hope they communicate effectively with whoever is invited for an interview.
  2. I would think that the painting cohort will become much larger than usual as they still will accept students (my friend doesn't know how many) but the three painting students who were accepted last year will re-enter as first years so new painters will be added to their cohort. My friend says that she would be shocked if they accept more than 4 people as 7 is the largest cohort size she has ever seen in any discipline (my friend is a third year).
  3. For anyone thinking about Bard my friend (current student) told me that this summer will be hybrid. As many as 80% of faculty will only be online. I know interviews haven't even been released yet...but I wonder what they will tell interviewees.
  4. my friend got that last year. They include that note to 10 people or less (according to admissions office). But my same friend applied this year and did not get that note or an interview.
  5. On the website for 2021 it says: Applicants in Painting/Printmaking should submit no more than four artworks and four drawings, studies, graphic works, or videos (these are not required to be pieces that were in your application portfolio). For 2021 applicants should prepare a PDF of these works and provide them to the admissions committee. Applicants in Photography prepare a portfolio of no more than 20 un-matted photographic proofs which are no larger than 20 X 24 inches each. Applicants in Sculpture prepare digital files that document the individual’s latest work as well as additional images representing earlier work. Additional documentation to the work in your preliminary portfolio may be brought to your interview (include with portfolio images on a thumb drive for your presentation). Please do not bring any objects for your presentation as the process of setting up takes away from interview time.
  6. I have no idea. But if your friend is in the class or is faculty then they would know
  7. they will update the portal and send an email. It seems like they interview 50-60 people so I assume the office won't call all those people.
  8. In the open house they said that they interview 15-20% of applicants. So it depends how many apply. Since they did say that significantly fewer people applied this year hopefully the stats are around the same even though they are only accepting 50% of their normal class size.
  9. Yale released decisions around this time last year but in this year's open house they said decisions would go out the first week of Feb
  10. no problem. If you want to teach I would recommend asking or researching what the school's reputation is for placing alums in teaching positions.
  11. Re: Feedback 3...unfortunately many MFA teaching positions are adjunct and adjunct positions are often through referral or are typically given to alums (like at Columbia). I've known many MFAs and Professors who have told me you have to know the right people to get teaching positions. It is not very common to see teaching positions posted on job sites and even when you do see them they already have someone in mind for the position. I'm not really sure why MFA teaching positions are permitted to be this way.
  12. Got it! I misunderstood and didn't see other comments on your comment. Could you possibly copy paste the email about yale having fewer applicants here or in a message. I applied painting/printmaking and didn't get it. Unless you applied in a different discipline.
  13. That is their policy but they did allow deferral due to COVID. In the open house they discussed that deferral was the reason that disciplines will be accepting significantly fewer students this year. Those accepted this year will not be permitted to defer.
  14. Yale and Bard offer need based aid. I'm not sure about SAIC and SVA. Yale also looks at your parents' income and assets regardless of your age and regardless of your relationship with them.
  15. exactly . lol. Thank you. Good luck to everyone!
  16. last year interview notifications went out 2/11 but I think the app was due later this year
  17. Skowhegan 2021 has been cancelled!!!?
  18. PS I asked my friend who applied to yale last year and interview decisions came out around 1/28. But maybe they said February because that is their COVID timeline.
  19. I think Yale said the 1st or 2nd week of February. UCLA doesn't do interviews so I assume we will know in March.
  20. I'm also applying to Hunter. I am showing more concise but my statement is very focused on my current body of work. Maybe consider what would pair the best with your statement? If it is a long term interest where the range strengthens your body of work...maybe go with the range?
  21. I'm not sure. I only have the inside scoop through my friend who is in photo. In photo 1 person will return as a first year and they will accept at least 3. But apparently cohort's can be as large as 7 people. Admissions might be willing to tell you how many painting will be accepting.
  22. UCLA, Hunter, Yale - painting Bard - Photo I heard that the entire Bard painting 1st years will be 1st years again in 2021 (due to the way that they structured their pandemic response) so I assume they will accept fewer students. I wish everyone was as transparent as Yale.
