  1. hi ~ anybody applying to Hunter this year??? im interested in the painting program but my biggest hang-up are the letters of rec. I went to undergrad for photo (2014) but have been working within painting since. any idea how much these weigh in the decision making process? any insights are appreciated!
  2. Thanks for the response! Yeah, i've heard similar things from people i know there as well, definitely all over the place right now. I'm going to wait till next year at this point -- Rutgers is a big contrast financially and I'm equally, if not more interested in that school,,,,plus not being able to defer at bard makes it too weighted for me personally. Good luck!
  3. the application process has been disenchanting for me tbh. I wanted to apply to rutgers and bard but obviously it turned into just bard. It seems like they're giving the current class an extra year? so, I feel apprehensive about the situation -- like how will studio space, funding, class size, teaching opportunities etc be impacted? its impossible to really know and keep thinking maybe this just isn't the best year to enter grad school for painting lol on one hand I could just apply and defer if I even get accepted? But not sure if bard even does deferrals. Might want to wait for rutgers.... overall, everything feels a bit too wobbly rn for me to feel comfortable/confident spending the money and going into debt. Just where I'm at -- would love any insight
  4. thanks for the response! I definitely agree, all of that is way more important than just showing work and I definitely feel competent in those areas, I just worry schools favor people who have had some degree of exposure since graduating,,,but hopefully my other experiences can translate.
  5. hello! i have a Q for the forums if anyone has sum insight: so, i've been on the fence about getting an mfa (painting) for a few years now but feel up to it this year and plan to apply. while compiling my cv I began to feel like its really lacking ( which it is ) and that I dont have the necessary pre-mfa requirements that many applicants do ( residency, shows, grants ). I haven't shown work since undergrad nor have I participated in any residencies ( was about to but covid ) and I havent received any grants since undergrad either. I've done other stuff since school ( opened a gallery/curatorial projects ), worked for artists, and have kept a steady studio practice. I feel pretty good in all other application requirements but i guess im wondering how much weight is on the cv and if my chances are drastically lowered due to my lack of experience in showing and residencies. thanks<3 ! I'm interested in bard and rutgers..(i know rutgers is cancelled for 2021)
  6. nah, i've gone back and forth from having a public website ( personal url, tumblr, etc. ) but havent had one for the past year or so. i'm not so great at self promo... ?
  7. hello! thinking about applying to bard mfa for painting 2021 -- any tips on applying are very welcome <3 small background: 28 years old, graduated from undergrad 6 years ago, been working mainly in the service industry with some artist gigs here and there. steady studio practice since school but I kinda work in a vacuum, reasons for mfa interest are: to open up job possibilities (teaching) cultivate more of an art community and network push/guide my work further, crit with artists, to show work
