  1. Hello everyone! First I want to thank everyone for all the amazing advice the last time I posted about making my final decision! After reading everyone’s replies (and talking to my PI and grad students) I realized that if I went to Tulane, I would be stuck doing research that I wasn’t 100% passionate about which is really important to me. So just as an update, I recently accepted my offer to attend UF!!! I wanted to make the decision earlier but some things happened so I postponed my decision making. I’m really looking forward to join the program and my whole family is on board too! I saw some people on the forum have already accepted their offers to UF and it would be awesome if we could connect or something :)) And again, thanks for being such an awesome group of people!!
  2. I don't know about PIs involved in that work but when I was looking for schools to apply to, I went on the NASP website and looked at the schools that offered school psych PhD programs. I went on every website and read about every professor until I found the professors that had similar interests as me. I wrote the programs down so I could remember and then compared all the programs so that I could decide which ones I wanted to apply to. Maybe doing it that way would be helpful to find a PI that you could work with!
  3. First off, congratulations to everyone that got accepted to schools and to those who are waiting, I hope you hear some good news soon! Anyways, this has been such an amazing forum where everyone has been super supportive and helpful. I am currently struggling on choosing which program I want to attend (Tulane and UF). Neither schools were my top choices when I started applying but after talking with other grad students and my PIs, I'm looking forward to going to either one. I want to make a decision soon because I know there are people on the waitlists hoping to hear back and I want to finally commit next week. My main focus is research and hopefully academia in the future and both programs offer me many research opportunities that will be a great help in the future. I secured funding in both schools so I'm not worried about that either. However, my research goals differ between both schools. My main research focus is intervention and prevention. At Tulane I would be more focused on self-regulation and executive functioning whereas at UF my research would be more focused on reading and math intervention. Two different things but I'm interested in both. The one thing about UF is just that I can't see myself living in Florida for the next four/five years and for Tulane my research interest has always been more towards academic intervention even though I have a lot of previous research experience with executive functioning and early childhood adversity. I guess my dilemma is location vs research interests. What do you think is more important for ya'll, location or research? Sorry for the long rant, but it feels good to let it out lol
  4. The COE grad school office said they haven’t sent out decisions yet. I emailed the program director yesterday to ask directly but haven’t heard anything yet...
  5. I haven't heard from UH either, I'll probably email them Monday if they don't reach out this week!
  6. I’m really confused on Syracuse’s admissions process. It’s not typical to have interview days (18th and 19th) and then say that they are still considering applicants that weren’t invited for an interview. It just seem weird to me.
  7. Has anyone heard from UH?? Its been 2 weeks since the interview and I haven't heard anything!
  8. Has anyone heard from Tulane??? I’ve been checking my email like crazy.
  9. They sent out interview invites last week. Interview day is 2/11
  10. I haven't heard anything from Tulane and the interview is Monday! Hopefully they'll send something tomorrow.
  11. I was able to reschedule but I asked the day they sent out invites because I had an interview on the 29th already. Try emailing them again, hopefully you'll be able to reschedule!
  12. I think it's common to interview with multiple PIs (from my experience). I think they have each candidate meet with at least two PIs that have similar interests (even if you didn't mention them in your SOP) just so that in case one PI has other candidates that they prefer then there is a possibility that the other PI will be willing to take you as their graduate student. At least that's what I think their reasoning is lol.
  13. Thanks! I had my interview last Friday and she called me today about my acceptance. I previously met with my PI two times (informal meeting and preliminary interview) before the interview so I think the interview day was just a formality.
  14. A grad student I know sent me this about grad school interviews and wanted to share it with others too! Good luck on your interviews and if you're still waiting to hear back, hopefully you'll hear something soon! https://github.com/SavannahRoberts/GradSchoolInterviewsWebinar/blob/main/Webinar_PreparingforInterviews.pdf
  15. For those waiting to hear back from Syracuse, I emailed the program and this was their response: Thank you for inquiring about the status of your application to the doctoral program in Psychology at Syracuse University. Graduate applications are currently being reviewed by faculty, and your application remains under consideration at this time. In terms of timeline, we are not able to provide a definite date of the decisions regarding interviews. Thus, if you have not yet received a status update, then your application remains under consideration. Hopefully we'll hear something soon!!!
  16. Lehigh is in my top 3! I made one whole SOP and just divided it up into three parts for each submission. Most of my SOPs were similar to each other so I just had to make sure it made sense!
  17. I applied to Syracuse but haven't heard anything yet. I'm guessing that they'll probably start sending out invites Jan 4th after the holidays.
  18. My POI is Courtnay Barrett, I hand an informal interview with her a couple weeks ago and she emailed me to schedule a formal interview with her. The process might be different for different POIs so don't worry too much about it.
  19. Probably either next week or the first week of January. That seems like when most schools will send interview invites.
  20. Hi everyone! So happy someone made a forum like this. I have already applied to all of my programs (THANK GOD!) so now I just have to wait to hopefully hear back from a few of the programs that I applied to. It would be great to connect with anyone who plans to apply or has applied to the same programs as me! University of Houston (PhD) University of Florida (PhD) Lehigh University (PhD) Syracuse University (PhD) Fordham University (PhD) Tulane University (PhD) Michigan State University (PhD) Rutgers University (PsyD) Best wishes to all of you!!
