Big news from my end -- the last school I was waiting to hear from, which was also my #1, University of Alabama, emailed last night with an acceptance! Woo!!! Thank you to all of you here for the incredible support, and congrats again to all who heard good news. To those still waiting -- you got this!

Psyched to see everyone so interactive on this thread. We've got a good crew I need advice. I got all of my apps in on time and had great conversations with my recommenders, but one of my recommenders has dropped off the face of the earth. Hasn't answered any of my emails since end of November, and hasn't turned in any of my letters of rec. For context, he is a prof I had in grad school and I had a zoom meeting with him before where I asked if he would be willing to write me a strong letter of rec, which he happily agreed to. Haven't heard from him since. I've followed up about 6/7 times, and am getting a bit anxious about it. Any advice for how to reach out and get an answer? At this point, I think I'm a bit screwed because I can't get another person to do my letter of rec, and this probably looks pretty bad to schools. If I'm rejected, I would love to get rejected because schools don't want me, not because my application was never technically complete.

@oroanthro thank you! really appreciate your advice here. got a little bit of leg work to do in coming up with a list of programs and then taking a look at how successful they are. it sounds like once that list is done, it'll be pretty clear which direction to go. thank you!

hi anthro peeps! i'm currently in the process of applying to communications programs with concentrations in sport as i look to study sports, social justice, and an athlete's impact on activism through their platforms on social media. I'm also super interested in the anthropological side of sport and social justice and how it's driven social change throughout our modern society. 'm really curious: i'd love to hear from any anthropology phds! on your perspective of your program, if you think i would be better off going for an anthro degree instead of comms? comms people, would love your perspective here. i'm mainly curious when i think about how the programs would go in terms of research and teaching after. which would provide more flexibility in career and teaching courses? thanks in advance for your wisdom and input

Saw someone do this for 2020, and hoping to get one started for 2021! Also hi there ? first post here, newbie to the grad cafe. I'm a Communications PhD hopeful, looking to study the intersection between sports, social media, and culture. Below are the schools I'm finishing up my apps to / looking to apply: University of Alabama UT Austin USC NYU UNC Penn State Texas Tech I read another post where I learned a bit about Brown's Modern Culture and Media PhD program, anyone have more info on that program? Anyone who is applying again and noticing big differences between applying this year and last year? Also, are there interviews generally for comms programs? Good luck to all my fellow peeps!
