So just to clarify, no one is claiming a Berkeley admit for Modern European History?? Also, has anyone received a Yale interview? Last cycle I was invited late December, so I wonder if they are super behind this year, or if I am just unsuccessful

I'd email all four collectively and thank them for their time/reiterate your interest in the program. For which school was it? It's very cool to have 4 POIs interview you. The more the merrier

I don't know why there is so much anxiety around interview/informal chat....It doesn't really matter what is posted on the website. What matters is that your POI has reached out to you and wants to chat about your research. This is a huge accomplishment in itself. I would consider it an interview and treat it as such. I most certainly wouldn't consider it an indication of acceptance. It's certainly a step in the right direction, but you still need to be prepared and show them that you're a good fit with their research interests and the Department...

Hey! I have some insider knowledge about Yale. My POI told me spots are really tight this year and they will be for at least the next 5 year. I’m talking 1-2 per sub field per year. So if you’re really set on Yale, I wouldn’t close any doors. Yes, perhaps you won’t be in the history faculty but the fact that you already reached out to the religious studies department says you know it could be a fit. I’d ask if your application will be considered by both departments and take this as a sign that they think your application is strong. I wouldn’t think of this as a bad thing, more a new door opening

Yes, it's me, who has an interview with Columbia next week. I would not panic, as I stated I want to expand into a new geographical area in my Columbia application and my interview is with a historian of that area. I am guessing they want to chat to me about it and see if I am capable of the switch. Also, relieved to hear that everyone's Berkeley interviews went well!

Anyone heard anything about waitlists? How does it work from here onwards? If they can’t accept you do you get a rejection?

Hey! I’m also on the waitlist for history at Harvard. Let me know if you figure out how it works or if there’s any chance you can ever get off it! I emailed and asked for my rank/position on the waitlist and they said they can’t tell me. They did tell me that usually it expires in April but due to covid that’s not the case this year. Hope this helps!

I really hope not. I had an interview and my POI reached out late December. It’s my best fit in the US so I’m pretty sad right now...
