  1. Just wanted to let everyone know that here at Hunter, Christine is still deep in application reading, so interview requests haven’t gone out yet! Hope that helps ease some of the anxiety. Sending out good vibes to all!!
  2. The best kind of rejection letter, super late and ambiguous! ?
  3. Not at all! That sounds positive, like your script got far!! ??
  4. Oh maybe yours isn’t a rejection! This is the key sentence in mine: “We regret to inform you that you are no longer under consideration for admission to this year’s program.” What did yours say?
  5. Finally got that Juilliard rejection! (email to check status) Hope others got better news! Fingers crossed for folks still waiting on admissions decisions and waitlist news!!
  6. Thanks @miltoniagable16 for the heads-up! That’s it for me this round. My summary: UCSD: rejected UT Austin: rejected Hunter: interviewed and accepted Columbia: interviewed and waitlisted NYU Musical Theatre: interviewed and accepted Brooklyn: rejected Juilliard: ??? I’m really excited to be heading to Hunter College! Have loved everyone I talked to there and the program’s a great fit for what I need right now. Thanks all for being on this journey together, really such a comfort through these stressful few months. Looking forward to meeting more of you NYC playwrights in person. Sending good wishes to everyone on waitlists/waiting for news!!!
  7. Thanks friends!!! It feels amazing to have been accepted into a program, and from what I can tell (from thousands of miles away), Hunter's seems like a really good fit for me. The reality of moving to NYC and starting grad school in the fall is starting to set in, which is its own scariness, but I'm trying to celebrate this victory now and not worry too much about the future. I will say that the more research that I do and the more current and graduated MFA students that I talk to, the more I get the sense that while it's a wonderful boost to artistic and career development, an MFA in Playwriting really isn't the end all and be all, and doesn't make or break anyone. All's to say that I know everyone on this forum, whether they go to grad school or not this fall, will keep writing plays, developing as an artist, and frankly, will have to keep hustling. I'm grateful to share this journey with all of you and hope the rest of this application season sets us all on the right paths for ourselves!
  8. Congratulations @smalliebiggz!!! @Tarantinoverse and @ZoraNeale2021 fingers crossed you get off the waitlist and get to meet each other/discover you’re long lost twins! I found out this morning I got accepted to Hunter!!!! Really thrilled, have loved everyone I’ve talked to there!! Also part of the Columbia DHH Morgan Jenness interview crew, so wanna see things through there before making a decision. Sending sunshine out there to soothe stinging rejections. I’m in the same boat as many with implied rejections from UCSD and UT Austin and no official word. Hoping for good news for all of us in the coming weeks!!
  9. Congrats @cheesy and @nickelmoop, hopefully you’ll end up being the UT Austin dynamic duo!!! Does the “may” in your message mean you’re still deciding if you’ll accept? Congrats to everyone doing Columbia interviews!!! I haven’t done a 20-min MFA interview myself (had one for something else where I felt like I was being shot down a water slide), but I’m gonna focus on staying relaxed and being myself, because as others mentioned, they already liked our samples! Of course, if anybody else has more advice to offer on short interviews, that would be welcome! @PlayWitch yay for your NYU interview!! Sorry the staggered interview requests were making you feel shitty, glad this has picked up your spirits! This is my first time through and the whole process is definitely draining and has been at times very discouraging. Glad we have each other here. @smalliebiggz Congrats on your Iowa interview!! Welcome to our little warm, informative, supportive corner of the vast, vast internet!!
  10. Congratulations @nickelmoop!! Incredible news! This group is crushing it!!
  11. Quick update here, had a lovely conversation with Christine Scarfuto, playwriting program director at Hunter, and the head of the theatre dept, Gregory Mosher. As @Agez had promised, Christine was very kind and warm; it was really easy to talk to both of them. They asked questions about my journey as a playwright and then talked about Hunter's program and answered my questions. As it might pertain to everyone waiting on notifications, she told me their current timeline is to interview folks for the next two weeks (today was the first day of interviews), and then make a decision. Congratulations to everyone with NYU and Brown interviews! Very exciting!!! @seasickmermaid so glad to hear you had such a great experience in your UCLA interview! Sending positive vibes to all for interviews to come and the continued waiting game!!
  12. It was a individual email to me, so notifications may still be coming! Fingers crossed!!
  13. Thanks @Agez!! Great to know you had such a good experience talking to Christine, and if not for the pandemic, would have gone! What did you decide about UCSD, or did you ask for more time? Awww, haha, sweet of him to inquire after us, hi @broccolini's dad!
  14. Congrats @seasickmermaid and @broccolini!!!! Exciting week! I just found out I got an interview at Hunter College!! Christine Scarfuto emailed asking about availability next week. Sending good vibes out to everyone for more good news!!
  15. Congrats @Agez!! Must feel so great to get into your top choice school!! Thanks for sharing all these details on the process. Wishing you clarity in your decision-making!
  16. Just wanted to chime in to say congrats @Agez!!! So excited for you!! Sending good vibes to you and @nickelmoop for your interviews this week!!
  17. Omg congrats @nickelmoop!!! How wonderful!!!! First bit of great news for the season!! February is starting with a bang! Did you find out by email?
  18. Hi all! Finally getting a moment to breathe after hitting submit on the Columbia and UCSD applications (thanks for that good energy @nickelmoop)! Welcome to the group @waitingandwaitingmaybe21! Those fees really add up. I’ve got 3 to go... @yoinky I just read Lewiston/Clarkston by Samuel D. Hunter. Lewiston was fine but Clarkston was really beautiful and moving. I saw Heroes of the Fourth Turning when Jeremy O. Harris recently produced a few virtual performances. I can imagine it’s even more gutting with your background. Grateful for all the kind and supportive energy. Sending out strong vibes for everyone’s applications. Looking forward to getting to the other side of this with y’all.
  19. Just discovered this longer post I missed after reading @Agez’s comments. Thanks for this detailed description of the program at Brooklyn College! I had been interested in more production opportunities, but your commentary is making me wonder if I’m overvaluing that. Great to get a sense of what’s valued at Brooklyn College and what’s working for you there. Really helpful to also understand the English vs Theatre dept division.
  20. Thanks for the great advice @brillantina. It’s a good reminder that there are people in every department who want to answer our questions! Really glad you’re enjoying your time in the program and are happy with your choice, despite such a crazily unexpected year!
  21. @yoinky Solid list. I think the USC deadline has already passed, so maybe the decision was made for you? I was at the panel that @captbaka linked to, and it was super useful, well worth watching. Really helpful insights and observations from all four folks about the pros and cons of their school. @captbaka Thanks for the link and for your candid remarks!
  22. Welcome to the club @yoinky! Where else are you applying? As for musical theatre writing, can’t say I’m any good at it yet either ?! Had no idea about @jamesprongs101 being Jeremy O. Harris! So cool to follow his journey into grad school (and to hear the stories after!!)
  23. Thanks @rd1222 for this detailed response! Super helpful breakdown of the program and how your time/courses are spent. Sending good wishes for your Juilliard application!
  24. Hi all! First-time applicant as well. My list is: - Juilliard - UT Austin - Columbia - UCSD - Hunter College - Brooklyn College - NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing I’ve read through all ten years of this forum (felt a bit like 100 Years of Solitude in its cyclical, epic nature!) and really appreciated what everybody shared, so didn’t want to just keep lurking! @Mel Rose @Agez@Coffee&Flowers Looking forward to going through the process with you. I invite anyone else who’s applying this year to come out of the woodwork and say hello! @brillantina I similarly would love to hear more about Brooklyn College’s program, and if there’s a sense that Tina Satter and Anne Washburn will stick around or are only interim? I’ve found Hunter and Brooklyn are the two programs hardest to find current info on. If anybody has info on what Hunter’s program is like under its current leadership (Christine Scarfuto), that would be much appreciated. Also wanted to express gratitude to all the past applicants, current MFA students and graduates who continue to share your insights on this forum! Thanks for looking out for us!
