  1. Woke up to a rejection from UConn, felt pretty bummed about all the money and time I'd spent on applications, then received an acceptance from Vermont with a scholarship offer! Grad app season is a mysterious and crazy time. I'm so glad I chose to throw my hat in the ring, but I'm even more glad it's basically over with for me. Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear back from schools!
  2. Question for y'all: One of my undergraduate papers was recently accepted by a national conference. Would it be odd for me to email the DGS of a master's program I applied to letting them know? According to the timeline provided on the school website, applications only started being reviewed about a week ago, but I don't want to seem pretentious or bothersome.
  3. I emailed the DGS at Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He confirmed what someone said on the results board a few weeks ago -- they're finished with their deliberations, and if you haven't heard from them by now, you've been rejected.
  4. That's awesome! Congrats!! ? Do you mind telling us if you received a notification from the website or an email from someone in the department?
  5. Just got accepted into the MA program at UIC. Only the second year is (potentially) funded, so it's not ideal, but at least it's something!
  6. Hmm...those have been on mine since I submitted the application, so I'm not sure if they indicate anything. Although, now that I'm looking at it again, I'm not sure if "Request for Late Arrival" has always been on there (but definitely the ones to defer and withdraw my application).
  7. You articulated my feelings this week exactly. Hang in there!
  8. I got an email last night letting me know my UMass app was updated and mine is still saying "Update Pending" as well! I've not only been obsessively refreshing it all day, but I've also been looking at past years to see if people have been accepted in that way (as opposed to receiving a personal email from someone in the department). It seems like many people in past years have been accepted in late Jan/very early Feb but a handful have also been rejected during that time. Gah!
  9. Too true... I saw those interview invites a few weeks ago and wrote off Maryland as well. In a weird way, it's helped me to not obsess over that app since I've basically been assuming it's a rejection.
  10. Bummer to hear that! How many programs did you apply to? Also, did anyone else apply to Maryland and get that random email thanking you for applying to the college (w/ a list of diversity and campus resources)?
  11. Hey, did anyone else see the note from the latest Illinois Urbana-Champaign rejection on the results board? The person said they reached out to the Director of Admissions, who told them all offers had gone out already. I'm not sure if it's true, but, man, that's a bummer! Another one to cross off my list, I guess...
  12. Aww, thanks! I've read about other people applying to a bunch of schools and then their first response is a rejection, so it makes them afraid that maybe they'll get rejected by everyone. I definitely had that feeling for a good minute or two, but I know it'll be okay if I do happen to get shutout this year. I'll have learned a lot either way just from applying!
  13. Just got my rejection from Ohio State University. ?
  14. I'm 30 and only just finishing up my BA! It's hard to not feel old(er), especially coming out of undergrad "late," but I do feel like age is beneficial in regards to knowing more about oneself and allowing for a healthier mix of humility and confidence. I hope application committees see it that way as well!
  15. Yes!! Nervous and excited as well. I'm anxious to get even one decision lately, no matter if it's an acceptance or rejection!
  16. Based on the results board, it looks like at least one person was accepted to OSU today!
  17. That was my first one and I botched it as well! Agh! I'm in the same boat as you, though, and would just like to have the band-aid ripped off at this point via the rejection I know I'm going to get (and that's okay).
  18. Got an email from "Ohio State Graduate and Professional Admissions" this morning and my heart just about stopped. Opened it up to find a general message about applying for the benefit of living in Columbus. Blegh.
