  1. Thank you very much for the advice!
  2. What is protocol for checking in about a waitlist status? Is it appropriate to send an email after two weeks of notification to check in/assure that the program is still my top choice and I would accept if given an offer? DGS said March 10th that there was a "distinct possibility" that they could make me an offer. Thanks for any advice, don't want to step on any AdCom toes.
  3. This happened to me at CU Boulder--radio silence, then I contacted DGS last week who told me I was waitlisted. Different schools, but I'm thinking this is the situation you may be in as well.
  4. Thank you so much!!! Very kind of you.
  5. I've been informed after emailing DGS that I am on the "extended waitlist" for the MA at CU Boulder. I've already reaffirmed my interest to DGS, but is there any point/recommendation in reaching out to my POI? This is the only school to which I applied. Thank you for any advice.
  6. Anyone hear from this program? It seems like PhD decisions went out a few days ago, still haven't heard from the MA.
  7. Who else is still waiting on a decision? We will make it through! I'm waiting on CU Boulder (MA.) Is there anyone else who hasn't heard from Boulder yet?
  8. Are there any CU Boulder admits lurking?
  9. Interesting, thanks! Looks like it's coming out in multiple cycles, then.
  10. @FortifyingMind, have you heard from Boulder?
  11. Good for you! This year was so tough. I do not yet have a decision in the portal. I’m assuming it’s coming out in waves or that the MA applicants are being notified at a different time than PhD. It was nice chatting with you this cycle. I hope you have a relaxing weekend planned!
  12. Oh no, I’m so sorry! Were you notified via POI or portal? Thanks for letting me know. Best luck to you for the future.
  13. Nice, I hope you, Quail and I all receive good news! I applied for the MA, race and popular culture of modern Europe. If I hear any news from my POI or anything, I'll let you both know.
  14. I certainly hope so! @FortifyingMind, what is your field and did you apply for the MA or PhD? The DGS told me they had a large increase in the number of applications, hence the delay. DGS said "end of February" for decisions.
  15. Anyone else besides Quail and I still waiting on a Boulder decision?
  16. Hoping that those of us still waiting on decisions get some good news this week. Have a good start to your week.
  17. That gave me a good chuckle. Thank you!
  18. Good point. In this case I was arbitrarily using US News history graduate program rankings. I know this isn’t necessarily the best system, but I was that was my parameter for the post.
  19. Thank you for your input, much appreciated.
  20. Hi there, thank you for responding. Like many others, my ultimate goal would be to teach, but I know that tenure track is extremely unlikely. Teaching at the community college level or similar would be satisfying for me. Otherwise, I am open to other career paths in the archives field or within an academic library, if need be. At this point, getting a PhD is a personal, not strictly professional, goal of mine, but one that I am not willing to pay for. While I would love to be one of the rare candidates that actually obtains a tenured position, this is not a deal breaker for me. Therefore, I suppose I should rephrase my question: is it possible to go to a funded PhD from an unranked program? I am not necessarily looking for a top 10 program, just one that would allow me to get a PhD and not be up to my ears in student loans after.
  21. Hi all, I hope this application cycle is treating you somewhat decently (or, if not, I hope at the very least that you are making it through with a shred of sanity left.) To get to the point, is it possible to go from an unranked MA program to a reputable PhD? The program I am referring to is at University of Colorado--Colorado Springs. I applied to only CU Boulder, but after a conversation with my POI, it appears that multiple faculty members in my field are now retiring, so my odds aren't looking that peachy. Therefore, I am looking at other options. Another other option I have is to obtain an MLIS from the University of Denver and try to matriculate to a history PhD after. For the sake of argument, both programs will cost me little to nothing at all. I will continue to work if I am accepted to either program. To add, I already applied last year and had to turn down multiple (unfunded) MA offers and I am absolutely itching to get back to school. I'm hoping to do it in the cheapest way possible, so applying yet again for another round is a pretty unattractive route for me to take. Thank you for any advice.
  22. Here's to hoping we will get some answers in the next two days before the weekend. I applied only to Boulder and I'm anxious to hear back soon, hopefully next week.
  23. You as well!
  24. After chatting with the graduate coordinator and looking at past history on this site, it seems like acceptances usually come out mid-February and rejections very end of February/very beginning of March. Edit: I have not heard anything either.
  25. Hi everybody. Exciting/nerve-wracking to see decisions start to come out. I only applied to CU Boulder this year, for post-1945 European cultural history (specifically race and popular culture.) Anyone else apply to Boulder? Luckily, I work at a university, so if this doesn't pan out, I've been accepted for the MLIS at my school and can use my tuition waiver for a free degree. But I would rather go to Boulder as a full-time job instead. I hope everyone is doing well--we have all worked incredibly hard this year under extraordinary circumstances.
