  1. From what I understand, both HEAL and EALC were finalized yesterday, so idk why it may not be updated yet . You could wait a bit longer or reach out to department to figure out the deal?
  2. My portal updated yesterday at 5 pm EST ? so I think its official now.
  3. Thank you! ❤️ And yes, I'm looking forward to taking it! I did get an offer for PhD from Harvard. As far as EALC goes: I heard unofficially from my POI that I got in last week. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences finalized all admission recommendations formally yesterday, so they will be sending out official letters some time between today and next week. It seems like interviews weren't required, so applicants may hear first from the official letter rather than POI. Idk how HEAL is going.
  4. Yeah, to add to @DesperateKid's comment, having a research question that also meshes well with interests of the faculty in the department is essential. You can have fantastic research questions and still not get into a masters program because there's no one who can viably advise you on it. That goes for both MA and PhD I think.
  5. I constantly refresh my email and grad cafe easily 20 times a day. I feel ya'lls pain Lets hope these next two weeks go by quickly!
  6. What's everyone's area of study/what are ya'll interested in? I'm interested in Premodern Jap Lit, specifically Edo period popular culture and the use of women's bodies in horror/supernatural genre. Would love to hear where everyone's coming from!
  7. Yeah, it seems like a lot of schools have been behind schedule. Some POI even told me that this year they received almost double applications due to test-optional policy, so they have been overwhelmed going through all the applications. And thanks! Thank you!! Praying I don't wreck the 15 minutes haha
  8. That makes a lot of sense, thanks! I got one that's only 15 min coming up...its so short!
  9. I only just started getting interview invites as of this Monday, so I think its still possible you'll get contacted later. But in general all PhD programs should interview, and MAs sometimes can but for the most part don't. Does that help?
  10. Any tips/recommendations for interviews? I don't really know what to expect.
  11. Thanks! And rest easy! Its still early, its just about to be mid-Jan so I'm hopeful we both will hear more soon ❤️ Any drama recommendations for a noob like me? I've been keeping myself busy with my job, so I guess that's good in that it helps time go by faster.
  12. What have y’all been doing to kill time? Any new hobbies lol?
  13. Oooo nice selection! I’ve heard great things about Toronto’s program and know a few people who did their MA there. And I didn’t accept the offer; I just got notified via email that OSU accepted me sorry if that was misleading! Still waiting to hear from others
  14. UMichigan, CU Boulder, OSU, Harvard, UW (Seattle), UCLA, Indiana-Bloomington, WUSTL, UW-Madison, UC Irvine. And I KNOW!! Its only been 8 days and this month has felt like 1 year. I'm going crazy lol What about you?
  15. Idk if its too late--I just joined, but I'm a first-gen, low income student applying this cycle. I was definitely saddened by Columbia and UPenn's pause on East Asian Language and Lit applications because they have always been my dream schools and have the best resources for my area of interest. Unfortunately, many of the schools who have paused or reduced admissions are the ones that traditionally offer the best financial packages to their students, so that was a pretty terrifying realization for me. I really did consider deferring my application, but unfortunately, the pandemic puts us in a time of financial uncertainty, and I don't have enough funds (nor does my family) to financially support myself an additional year (I've relied heavily on my scholarships and work study from school to support my living expenses). I've decided to just take a shot and apply to other schools this cycle, and I'm glad I did. Not only have I saved so much money I didn't have (sending additional GRE reports is crazy expensive), but also I am happy with my current selection of schools and am hoping for the best!
  16. Another applicant here interested in pre-modern literature and the violence, death, and mutilation of women in Edo tales! I feel like we would be great colleagues lol. Definitely NOT creepy and many POI have told me that such topics like ours would stick out among the other more ~mainstream~ topics in the applicant pool, giving us an edge if an admissions committee has to filter before faculty get to view it.
  17. Wow, I've been scrolling through existing threads for days and finally found this one! Nice to see others who are applying EALC too! ?
