  1. Love this.
  2. I'm out of reactions again; thank you for this!
  3. Aimee Nezhukumatathil's finally arrived in the mail a couple days ago and did you say Periodic. Table. Sonnets? Swoooooon. Thank you!
  4. Truly. Whenever I happen upon the combination of science and poetry, I am transfixed. I hunt for it now. There are many of us out here!
  5. Agreed!
  6. Great to hear your perspective. I was also accepted to SLC (poetry). I live in California, so the move plus the fact that they are only partially funded makes it a long shot for me. However, I like that it is situated in a quieter spot, which I find better for writing; and is within easy reach of NYC, so I can avail myself of doses of much-needed city. My best friend lives in Brooklyn, so that is also a factor. Quite a bit depends on cheap rent. I am aware of the on-campus R.A. opportunities, but that is a non-starter for me, as it would defeat my need for quiet, devoted writing time. I'm also preparing a list of questions for them. I'd love to hear how this evolves for you.
  7. I was told there would be no math LOL What is your feeling about SLC? Is it a serious contender for you?
  8. CONGRATS!
  9. HERE FOR IT!!!
  10. Congratulations on having excellent options! I admire your discipline in quitting Draft. I honestly had no idea this would be a half-yearlong gauntlet. I console myself that it promotes necessary endurance, a là this James Baldwin quote that keeps circling in my brain: “Do this book, or die. You have to go through that. Talent is insignificant. I know a lot of talented ruins. Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck, but most of all, endurance.”
  11. Me, too!
  12. I am for sure! I erroneously uploaded while running around doing errands. My apologies. My post now includes text only. Hope this also removes the original from your Quotes. Will check when I get to my laptop - my phone is super old!
  13. Oh dear! Will do immediately! So sorry!
  14. Hello Hopkins applicants - This was posted on Draft a couple of hours ago: Hello Hopkins applicants! I just finished class with Jean McGarry who said she would email me the date they plan to call people (she couldn’t remember it off the top of her head) with acceptances! I will absolutely relay the answer to this group as well. After I explained I wasn’t “expecting much” during this, my first application cycle, she added that their program, and similarly competitive programs, like to see a year or two between undergrad and MFAs. Additionally, that of the approximately 400 applicants, only 30 or so are “worth considering.” Take that as you will, but this is not the first time I’m hearing such a thing so interested to see what y’all think.
  15. Congrats!
  16. Ohhhh yes, you are! Thank you for giving me a reason to celebrate today! WOO HOO!
  17. @ilikepoetry Here's looking at you!
  18. Excellent, let's do this.
  19. Seconded, tequila ready
  20. Duuuuuude, were you accepted at Iowa?! C O N G R A T S !!!
  21. Woo hoo! Congrats!
  22. Congrats! Arts & Letters is fantastic! Cheers to you!
  23. Can't wait for this. Thank you so much!
  24. An extremely accomplished poetry teacher of mine, who had almost 40 poems published in journals last year, lets his poems sit for 2-5 years before considering them finished. A 2-5 year waiting period isn't right for everyone, but it's definitely helped me to revisit work months or even years after the red-hot moment of creation has cooled.
  25. I applied to JHU for poetry -- haven't heard a peep. Not sure about Iowa. However, a friend who holds both an MFA (UCR) and PhD (USC) mentioned that some programs may be late in notifying this year, and also reiterated that waitlisted folks might still be contacted in late April.
