  1. Yeah, results came out in the second weekend of Feb last year. An email from the director will be sent asking you to access the decision letter on the portal.
  2. @PoetofEthics Hey! Not sure if this is still relevant, but hope this helps: Don't list all semesters individually, unless you are required to. The lenght and content of a CV vary depending on the purpose - An academic CV may call for detailed coursework whereas an employment gig will only be looking at overall grades (unless you are applying for a technical position where they may need to review the courses you have taken), for which a resume is more suitable. Also, academic CVs for a PhD will require you to focus more on field/area of specialisation related coursework whereas CV for Mastrer's program will want to see courses undertaken related to your Major. Instead of listing down all the courses semesterwise, just list the years attended, and maybe key courses relevant to your area od specialisation in your Master's. Alternatively, you can just list the year graduated: Uni Name, B.A. Philosophy 2007, GPA: XX.X Thesis: Courses: Master'sMajorRelatedCourse1, Master'sMajorsRelatedCourse2, (e.g. Mathematical Logic, Philosophical Problem, Theory of KNowledge) Community College 2000, GPA: Courses: Listing just the graduation year will mean they won't straightaway reject your application just by looking at the CV. In your SoP, address the gaps and highlight it - Academic strengths are not the only thing that unis are looking for in a prospective candidates. Not everyone is born with a silver spoon, and it is alright to have had a bit of a rollercoaster of a life in your pre-uni years. What is important is demonstrating how you have learnt from such experiences/overcame hurdles and enaged positively with educational opportunities post that. Your SoP should show them that you have evolved to become a mature and responsible individual and have a strong inclination to pursue a specific program (in your case, philosophy) You mention getting straight As in the latter half of your academic pursuits -- you can use this to strengthen your SoP. Cite relevant/specific examples of how you overcame the challenges or what you did differently to turn your grades over a new leaf. Merely stating "I had failures in the past, but have grown from the experience" is not convincing enough as it neither ackolwedges your weaknesses/misfortunes nor indicate your potential ability to thrive in uni. Explain "how you grew from the experience" and link it to your motivation to attend gradschool/pursue a program in philosophy.
  3. Ok, yes. It does say "complete" under view checklist. I see that all my applications on applyweb show "Submit" in a greenbox (since there are a couple of other unis that also use the collegenet/applyweb portal for admissions) but the Stanford application says "Submit" in a yellow box. Does anyone else have a "submit" highlighted in yellow? And woohoo, @Miss Evidence congratulations on the interview invite!
  4. So, my status for last year's application still says "submitted" (but in a green box), despite having received a beautifully crafted rejection letter. ? I don't recall seeing it change to "complete". Perhaps, "complete" is for applicants who need to turn in external scores or official transcipts?
  5. This is my sceond time appying to SHIPS/RILE. Haven't heard back yet. Going by my experience from last year, SHIPS notices come in much later than LSTD. I think it depends on the university. How many PoIs did you list in your application? I listed two of them in my SoP, just in case one of them wasn't available. I can;t recollect if the Stanford application portal had an option to list a second PoI, but I remember some other universities did. Last year, the professor whom I wanted to work with at the Uni of Toronto was going to go on a sabbatical and messaged me asking if I would like for my application to be passed onto another professor working in a similar field.
  6. Are you looking for US in specific?I followed the rankings on this list: https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/university-subject-rankings/2020/education-training
  7. I was rummaging through my PI's profile on the staff directory and realised that all his current advisees are those who have a Master's in the same field as him [Economics] which makes me wonder if he will accept students who don't have an Econs degree. This is despite his research interests being spread across diverse fields. On another note though, WOULD IT KILL THEM TO GIVE US A TIMELINE/UPDATE ON THE APPLICATION STATUS?!! Sigh!
  8. CertiFile is an external, add-on service that you can opt for to have you non-American degrees authenticated by paying a steep fee! They transcribe your grades/degree to a US equivalent grading/ranking scheme. If you have uploaded scanned copies of your original transcripts, that should suffice. Anyone who's applying to any of Stanford's programme will see that CertiFile message, you can disregard it. I don't think a PhD application necessitates grades to be matched to the standardised/American grading system.
  9. OMG! Now I regret not reaching out to my PoI. I thought of writing to him last week when the wait just became so unnerving but thought it might be too late to write to him AAAARRRGH! BTW, Is anyone else applying to SHIPS Anthro?
  10. Does anyone else's status still show as "submitted"? The people who are talking about their status being indicated as "complete" is giving me sleepless nights! Mine is still the same, and I was wondering too if I should contact the PoI. I did write to gradadmissions almost a month and a half back asking about this but never received a reply. BTW, I'm applying to SHIPS anthropology/RILE.
