  1. Thanks for replying so soon! I also just realized I posted this on the Sociology forum, so sorry about that and thanks for sharing your exp with Penn State
  2. Hi everyone, hoping I can get some answers here I had my interview with Penn State 2 weeks ago. It went really well and my POI emailed me a few days after saying they were nominating me for acceptance (yay!). I didn't hear from the program or the university until today when they sent out an invitation for a virtual recruitment event. I'm not sure how to approach the event. There was no mention of interviews, but they did say we have the opportunity to meet with faculty 1:1. Thinking of reaching out to faculty I haven't already spoken to, so I can get to know other professors. How much preparation should I put into this? Is this event them trying to get me to go to the school or am I still trying to convince them to offer me admission?

  4. Apologies for replying so late haha but I'm going to be applying this cycle! How're applications going for you?
  5. Oh nice! My GPA is actually around the same (3.4). I used to not feel too confident about that but I talked to some PhD students and a number of them said that SoP and LoR have more weight on the decision (though it doesn't hurt to have a high GPA and GRE score). My background is in Cognitive Science. By the time I apply, I'll have around 1.5 yrs of research experience, and 2.5 yrs of working experience.
  6. Right now I'm looking at PhD programs in Embry-Riddle, University of Minnesota, University of Washington, Georgia Tech, UC Irvine, and University of Michigan. UCI and UM have Informatics degrees that also cover HCI topics. What schools are you looking at?
  7. Hi @mbat72 I'm thinking of applying to HFE/HCI related programs either Fall 2021 or 2022, still trying to strengthen my app since I don't have research experience. Background: Majored in Cognitive Science, originally was going to do UX Design, but ended up really liking UX Research post-grad/once I started working. Currently doing my own independent research and volunteering on the side to get more projects under my belt.
