anyone get into the MPP with impact investing background? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth reapplying next year as I just got rejected.

My stats - 164Q 166V, 5 years experience (2 at a leading US foundation, then 3 living in an emerging market on the management team of a fintech startup with leading equity investors), 3.6 GPA from top ~2 private US university

Whoa, such an impressive profile. Admissions truly is a black box. Not too sound totally obnoxious but I have a similar profile, but with 4 years experience - part of which is in impact investing. I'm wondering what went wrong - high GREs, super quantitative undergrad (although I had quite a few Bs but the school is MIT/Stanford), 3 awesome LORs (albeit from the same workplace). Maybe the "why MPP" wasn't clear.

Would my chances of getting in improve if I apply next year for the MPA instead and as a MIT MBA student? Anything y'all would suggesting changing in the above?

  2. Guys...if I may to manage expectations, HKS explicitly mentioned just one week ago that "decisions will be released in late March". 18th is by no means "late" March. I also find it weird that they didn't yet publish that standard "Here's how you will receive your decision" blog post yet. I still think it'll be sometime next week, but of course I may be wrong. These portal updates are weird + they must feel pressured given all of their peer programs have published + 100 days have passed + what's this thing some people have mentioned about current students telling them today is the day? Can y'all elaborate?

So I checked the blogs from the start (2012) till 2020. Sharing a few insights with everyone to help them function in life (I've been there, so I know how miserable these days must have been).

    Decision day:

    2012: Tuesday

2013 Wednesday & Friday  (Once upon a time, they used to release MPP/MPA-ID on different dates)

    2014 : Thursday

    2015-2017 : Wednesday

    2018-2020 : Thursday

The sequence of mails leading to D-day have differed over the years, but some core mails have been absolute certainties (The frustrating/scary part is that they haven't even begun yet for this year. Maybe today's the day it starts)

    1. Three types of decisions, starting with not admitted

    2. Waitlisted

    3. Admitted

    4. Application update (Basically showing candidates how the screenshot of an application status update will look like in the portal)

    5. An informal take on the behind the scenes of the admissions process (Matt's computer, the room, etc)

Look out for 'Decision Process' series of mails. Frankly, I'm confused about the 25th as D-day because all the previous years had multiple entries in this series (15+). If I consider 25th as the date, you should be getting at least 4 mails on consecutive dates starting from 22nd (could be from 20th/21st as well). They usually avoid sending on Sat/Sun, but have done in the past on some occasions.

Bottom line: If you see a 'Decision Process' blog hitting today, it is safe to assume that the real countdown has begun.

I encourage all to go through the archives to take some stress out and see how it has been over the years. There are pictures and all, which humanizes the admissions process. Gotta feel for Matt and his team.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the effort you have put to provide transparency where HKS has totally failed to. I think it'll definitely be Thursday the 25th or Monday the 30th, and I wouldn't rely on any blog post except the one where they tell us how to expect receiving the "decision" email. Everything else is casual banter that they've totally skipped over this admissions cycle, no idea why.

168 GRE Q score (169 V), did not work for a developmental org but did work in financial policy (through a third party org, not directly in a legislative body) and tried to angle it in that direction. Didn't do quant heavy stuff in college (still not sure if my political science background might affect me negatively) but afterwards did take multivariate calc, linear algebra, and real analysis (through Harvard Extension, not sure how they perceive that. Some say it's good some say it's worthless ?‍♂️ I personally thought the classes felt exactly like normal college classes, except online).

SOP is good, I think my policy analysis essay is very, very strong. Didn't get to read LORs but I don't have a reason to think they weren't strong.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow or next week...

Wow, I'd be very surprised if you don't get in. Keep us posted!

....so would love to get one application blog.  Just to say..."hey folks no stress..we are working on it..you will get your result this week or next week" just something...  it could be a 1 sentence.  "You will find out later this week"  id be happy with that vs end of May, which extends to 2 weeks from now.  Sorry needed to get this out of my system.

Ugh same here. I'm not a fan of the uncertainty they have kept us in, and to go from blog post every 2 days in the past to absolutely nothing in 3 months this year is also a transition that could have been explained. Oh well, what to do now except wait...I really hope its at least next week vs. Monday the 30th

  6. Received the HKS magazine yesterday; MPP applicant based in NYC, did not apply for financial aid/fellowships. Related to what someone had said on this thread earlier, I'm fully confident this has nothing to do with admissions chances - HKS wouldn't be so silly. Either all applicants (or those in the US & Canada) will receive it, or those who had somehow checked some box in the application or expressed some form of interest in staying subscribed received it.
