    Boulder, CO

Hi friends! I am about to move to Boulder in late July from Fort Worth, TX for my Ph.D. and I thought I might restart this thread. What are some tips and tricks of living here. This is a big change for me so I am open to recommendations, advice, and pals!
  2. I realize I haven't updated y'all. I accepted a spot at CU Boulder. I took a short visit up to Boulder a couple weeks ago and fell in love. I got to meet with other grad students and faculty and walk around the campus. Very excited but sad to leave Fort Worth.
  3. I just heard back from Nebraska (rejected). I'm not upset at all because they were basically last on my list, but I STILL haven't heard from my #1, Mizzou. I am getting really nervous here. At this point, it feels like they might as well send a rejection.
  4. Yes, a Ph.D. in Communication Studies. I heard back from them on February 10th. I have no idea about what other decisions they have left. They are also the only program I've heard from about funding.
  5. Hi! I am getting antsy about hearing back, mostly because I want to make a decision. Has anyone heard from Nebraska or Mizzou recently? I am already doing virtual open houses with my accepted programs (UT, CU Boulder, George Mason) but haven't heard a peep from the above schools. I even tried emailing the program director but no dice. Why so late?
  6. Has anyone heard anything from Mizzou??? I am dying to hear back, but they are being very coy and not sending out any clear information.
  7. Damn, I fell asleep cuddling with my dog and I had it on my calendar and everything...
  8. Nope, UPenn was the only one I applied to in Philly. It's all good I have really great other options!
  9. Also - real talk - how long should we wait to hear from a school before reaching out in inquiry about application status/decision?
  10. I was sent an email of my acceptance from the program coordinator/my potential PI. I went to check in on my portal and that is where I found the funding. I am not sure if they are sending emails to everyone.
  11. Well. Heard from UPenn. It's a no. I know It was super competitive (hundreds of apps for 10 spots) and I have other options but I am a little sad. I really loved their program and could see myself in Philadelphia. This hit me harder than I thought. Regardless, congrats to those who were admitted!
  12. Hi! Thank you! I got word on their admission portal that I got full funding, a generous stipend, health insurance, either a research or teaching assistantship, and a potential for funded summer research. They didn’t say (or didn’t tell me) how many applied or got in. I hope this answers your question.
  13. Well that gives me SOMETHING to look forward to because I am tragically alone (except my dog, Zelda). I really like their program and Philadelphia, plus, you know, it's UPenn... Good luck to all. May we all have options given to us.
  14. I don't mind. I been accepted at UT and George Mason, rejected from Cornell, and waiting for Mizzou, UPenn, and Nebraska.
  15. I heard from Boulder yesterday evening (accepted). But I think they are doing it bit by bit.
  16. I am still waiting to hear from Mizzou, Boulder, UPenn, and Nebraska. Has anyone heard a peep from these schools? What do y'all do to deal with impatience? I just want to make my decision and start planning since I will be moving this year.
  17. I also got that email! I feel the same and I have a couple options already and some with better fits for me. Keep your head up!
  18. Oh my god all this talk of UPenn is making me nervous. I really like their program so they're my #2. But in happier news I got in to George Mason today!
  19. I think my uncertainty and anxiety is getting the better than me. I am very stressed and nervous about waiting (also very impatient). Anyone else in that boat?
  20. Hello and thank you! There was a short interview for UT. I did mine with Joshua Barbour who I hope to work with. I have also been talking with Brian Houston and Debbie Dougherty at Mizzou. I want to do organizational communication but I ma waiting on funding packages to make the big decision. I have two friends, one in Mizzou's Ph.D. program and one at Cornell's and I asked them about their school's process. My Mizzou friend gave me nothing but my Cornell friend gave me insight since his advisor is on the review team. They all have read them and they should be meeting Tuesday (1/26) to evaluate them all together and see advisor fit. Then there is an interview process with potential advisors then a week or 2 after that offers should go out. But, again, COVID has mussed with all the timelines.
  21. Hello! I am a little late to the game here and I have never been on GradCafe, but I study crisis and resilience in organizational communication. I applied to 7 Ph.D. programs. Mizzou Boulder UT Austin (Accepted!) George Mason UPenn Annenberg Cornell Nebraska I am NOT a patient person but I am excited that at least something has happened. It's getting close to when we should start hearing from most. Any one else studying something similar?
