  1. I don't mean to contribute negativity and fatalism, but I just wanted to briefly bid farewell to the thread. Although I haven't received any decisions yet, the consistent reports of Ph.D programs receiving twice (sometimes more) the number of applicants they ordinarily do has me feeling quite down and resigned to striking out this year, especially considering that some departments have also cut their intake. My profile is good but by no means the crème de la crème or anything close to that. If I'm going to do this again, I will need to apply to many more programs than I did this time. In the meantime, I need put myself in the proper head space to really think about alternative options for next year. If I get a surprise admit, I will be sure to pop back in. But I suspect I won't! Best of luck to everyone!
  2. I'm sorry! Just curious: how do you determine not great fit? For me, it's how much shoe-horning I had to do with my statement of purpose in order for my candidacy to make sense for the department.
  3. It doesn't hurt to try. My guess is they will just tell you to call the department.
  4. The department. They would know where their process is at.
  5. Can someone call or email Princeton? I don't have the guts!
  6. On to tomorrow, I suppose. Good night friends!
  7. For what it's worth, if an informal email acceptance from a professor comes before the graduate schools issues a letter, it's certainly possible that email will come after 5:00 PM.
  8. I will claim a Princeton rejection as soon as I get it!
  9. Congrats! Happy you have some good news before February. That's amazing.
  10. Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard. At Columbia, they have one master's program for Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies.
  11. And I concur, @animal_whisperer. I'm not taking any of these decisions personally. There are many paths to a meaningful life and a Ph.D is only of them.
  12. I think within the next week. I have no evidence for this - just my foreboding!
  13. The Princeton bloodbath is coming. I can feel it in my bones.
  14. Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, Cornell, NYU, and Rochester for Ph.D in Political Science. I also applied to Master's programs at Harvard and Columbia in case I'm totally shut out in Ph.D admissions. Re: the Master's program. If any of you have 100K+ in student loans, I would love to chat via private message about your experience.
  15. Maybe they hired private investigators to spy on the admissions committee.
  16. It's also good to get to "know" some of the people who will be accepted to programs instead of me. Helps in animating the mental images of my nemeses!
  17. I don't think it's clutter. It helps with my anxiety, and a reminder that there are other things to life than just graduate admissions.
  18. If past years are an indication, Princeton acceptances should be coming this week and rejections sometime next.
  19. I think this is going to be a bad year for me. I expected the number of applications to jump, but if departments are also substantially reducing the number of places....
  20. BTW, has anyone claimed the Georgetown Government interview from the results page last week?
  21. This is my first year, but I believe it's generally a mistake to infer from a rejection anything about your chances at other programs. It's totally idiosyncratic.
  22. First time forum poster, longtime reader of the results page. I believe the Princeton results are fake, certainly the rejections. I applied and there is simply no way I will be admitted. Since there is no decision on ApplyWeb for me, I am inclined to believe these are trolls.
