I think that sounds like a great plan!

I have been accepted to Penn as well for their Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Development program and I will likely end up there next year. Maybe I'll see you around!

I’m not at Penn GSE (as I mentioned before I’m a business major student from undergrad till now) but I know abundant amount of people at Penn GSE tho??

I'm with you! Better knowing than continuing to wait. Do you know what you plan for next year?

Honestly, there’s no difference between my current school (UPenn, I’m doing a masters) and Harvard, but the Harvard brand is just so strong and compelling to me (some people would get confused between UPenn and penn state... but no offense to Penn state tho)... I think I will take more additional courses at Penn to delay my graduation to next year as I need my full-time international student status to be continued, and reapply to HGSE. Professionally, I will continue to do consulting. I hope next year the number of applications could be lowered a little bit? although I know it’s very selfish to say it...

EPA! And thank you! I live for the updates on this page haha!

I’m also an EPA applicant! Do you mind sharing your basic stats? My stats are on page 2.

I also have been following this forum since I applied in December! Sending everyone such happy, positive thoughts for all our upcoming news!!! ❤️

Nice to have you onboard! Which program did you apply to?

    Thank you!

This means you can tell if you are admitted or not even before you open the official letter...... if there’s no enrollment response form then it means you are either rejected or waitlisted.

Mine says status is "submitted". Will this change when the results are posted?

No. The changes will be on the page shows the status of your application materials (xxx received). Basically on that page there will be a link stating “admission decision” for everyone; if you are admitted, beside the “admission decision” link, there will be another link stating “respond to enrollment...”.

Hi everyone! I've been following this thread ever since last Friday when we were supposed to hear back but didn't and honestly the conversation here has kept me sane through this time! You all are incredibly talented, funny, supportive, and I honestly at this point I just pray that all of us to get in together so that I can meet/work with/befriend each of you. HGSE would be amazing I'm sure, but this forum makes me certain that it will be filled with an incredible and wholesome bunch ?

Thank you! I hope we all can meet in Cambridge this fall with our passion and love! What program did you apply for at HGSE?

Guys, we've all done the best we can. They did say they would release by mid March, so there's still a few days left. Why stress out? Enjoy your weekend. We'll know soon enough. Also, no respectable school would release on a Thursday. Now excuse me while I go refresh the portal.

Don’t agree with your statement on no respectable school would release decisions on a Thursday hahahahaha... I think your statement was respectable schools would release on Fridays... but actually many reputable schools such as Harvard Divinity School released its decisions on this Monday... also, it is just our psychological compulsion to keep refreshing the portals and hope the decisions would come asap??

This is good to know! I thought the email would give us some sort of indication either way. Thank you, this makes me feel slightly better!

Most of the graduate schools in the United States stick to this trick... to be honest, this makes me feel more nervous when logging into the application portal?

  10. 8 minutes ago, cjay2021 said:

I'm the same! I want to know the results are out before I see mine. I need to be mentally prepared to open that email or see the decision in portal! Good Luck everyone, can't wait to hear about all of your acceptances tonight and tomorrow :D

I can assure you that you won’t see your results in the email. Once you are in the portal, before you click the link to the official letter, if you see there’s a link beside the link to the official letter stating “respond to enrollment...” it means you are admitted; if not, then the decision is going to be either a rejection or a waitlist.

This sounds crazy! Really 11pm? So we can keep waiting and hoping! But I won't lose sleep waiting for the result. I'd rather sleep and wake up to whatever it is. I actually refresh Gradcafe HGSE forum and not my mail and portal. I think  I want to see the reactions here first before I check. Good luck to everyone again! Praying we all make it through.

But that’s for Stanford only and I think that’s an exception (Stanford people are interesting sometimes). Still hoping HGSE can release the decisions ASAP... it is really driving me crazy... more than two months of waiting...

I wonder the rationale behind a midnight (or 11PM) release time. Is it just for torture reasons?

It is even more interesting to me as I am having a 13 hour difference from EST and 16 hour difference from California time... it’s more torturing and tricky to me... basically I can’t sleep during midnight (bc it’s afternoon in america) and now daytime as well lol...

  13. Midnight sounded bizarre before, until the time I received the rejection letter from Stanford GSE at 11pm California time more than a week ago.... so it literally can come any second??

    Ashley,

Your stats are fine. None of the items you mention will keep you from being admitted to HGSE.  That said, everyone being seriously considered by the HGSE will have great stats.  What really separates the candidates is a combination of volunteer/public service, great essays, and recommenders that cite examples of their experiences with you that align with experiences listed in your resume (Harvard loves verification of applicant’s claims through triangulated sources).  Also, it greatly matters how many are competing against you within your demographic  - if your demographic is a small group of applicants, that further increases your chances of being accepted.

Unfortunately, because this is a one-off admission cycle, there are no past stats on the number of applications vs the number admitted.  For instance, the regular winter application has about a 36% admission rate. My guess is that the number admitted this summer cycle will be significantly less, because the HGSE is using summer admission to replace those admitted last winter that are choosing not to attend online this fall, including existing part-time students that also will not return until onsite classes resume.

In any event, we’ll know in a few weeks!

    Warm regards,

    Oden

    Hi Oden,

i think most of the info you provided was accurate, except the admissions rate. The 36% admissions rate includes master’s as well as doctoral programs. For Ed.M. only, the admissions rate is 54%. This is a public record according to Peterson’s.

Hi all! I have found it helpful when others have posted this in previous years so I thought I would add to the knowledge base about decision timelines. I received acceptance letters from...

    - Stanford GSE ICE/IEPA MA program on Feb 27 2021

    - UPenn GSE International Educational Development Program on Feb 17 2021, about a month after my application was deemed complete

    - Teachers College Columbia University Economics and Education Program on Feb 25 2021

Wow you are definitely going to get into HGSE as you have been admitted to Stanford... which program are you applying at HGSE?

I'm so happy to hear you loved your NYU experience! I feel like either people love it or hate it and I think I'm somewhere in-between. SGSE just has fewer seats. Pretty sure it just comes down to that. I have never applied there though.

The thing that I see in SGSE’s thread is that people don’t talk about stats at all... and peterson’s indicates that it’s acceptance rate is less than 30% which should be a lot higher than many Ed schools right?

  17. 8 minutes ago, NYCTeach said:

hahha small world. So you're in Stern. You're fine. Harvard knows Stern is legit and well respected in the field. Combine that with Penn and I think you're in a great position. For the record, when I went to TC--I had classes with people who went to mediocre colleges and people who to Harvard for undergrad. Education grad school at the Ivy level is a totally different ballgame. It's really not as competitive as one think...

idk how the heck I got into Stern honestly, and to be fair, I think NYU changed my life entirely. The culture and people at NYU are just amazing, and fit me absolutely well.... and I really missed the times that I had to grab the food at the dining cars outside of Tisch Hall (Stern Undergrad building) and went straight to classes... one of my current Penn professors was actually my professor at stern too...

For now I don’t really know because I have already been rejected by Stanford GSE and I can’t stop thinking that SGSE is only ranked 3rd while HGSE is ranked 1st although I know Stanford admits less students... have you ever applied to SGSE or do you have any insights about the admissions at SGSE?

  18. Just now, NYCTeach said:

I did graduate from NYU. I am fairly certain, they look at your overall GPA. Also, each of those schools based on their respective caliber grades differently--HGSE knows that and will consider it. I think it's admire that you went from top 100 to top 30. They will see that.  I would not worry. Plus I think the MA at Penn is extremely helpful and makes you standout. Most applicants don't already have an MA.

So we are alum! I graduated from NYU last year for undergrad as well. ?

I just looked it over! I think you're absolutely a competitive candidate. Your description of your SOP sounds well mapped out. I know they take consultants very seriously. I think you're fine. They also have a very high acceptance rate. It's the highest out of any Harvard program so keep that in mind. What are you getting your MA in right now?

I am at Penn (although I was also a Columbia admit?) for masters in a business-related field. Why do I keep thinking that you graduated from NYU for undergrad? Perhaps because of your NYC Teacher title as well as your academic backgrounds (Columbia which is in NYC, and top 30 undergrad which makes NYU in the list as well.) Lastly, would you think my gpa of the last two years at college as well as my current path at Penn could compensate a little bit for my low gpa in the sophomore year? I can’t stop thinking about this to be honest.

  20. 12 minutes ago, NYCTeach said:

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I also applied to the Urban Scholars Fellowship and should I be accepted most likely will only attend if I also to the fellowship. Will be hard to turn it down if I do get accepted without but I already shelled out the big bucks for TC and don't have the ability to do so again as I want to start a family shortly.  What do you hope to do within EPA?

I’m a consulting guy so I plan to be an education policy consultant... so my purpose is not becoming a teacher but a consultant that can help promote education equality and the importance of education, which were the main focuses in my sop. The thing I am really worried about is my extremely low gpa in my sophomore year, and perhaps lack of relevant professional experiences in education although I have had several consulting internships and stuff. Would you mind take a look at my stats on page 2, and then give me your truthful thoughts? I don’t really know what does a top education school look for... some people say they don’t care that much about high gpa (except Stanford GSE) but it seems like many people have like 3.7-3.8 ish gpa?

3.7 GPA from top 30 national university

8 years teaching almost all grades (I have a K-12 license) in Title 1 public schools (both charter, magnet, G&T and zoned) in NYC

MA from TC (they don't do GPAs but I have all As)

I wrote a really poor SOP that was ALL OVER THE PLACE as I was trying to cram in my professional experiences so despite my academic profile I think that ruined my chances

I think your academic preparations as well as professional experiences are stunning! Don’t worry about it too much about the sop because I think it would be fine for you to mention all of your professional achievements, and the committee should be able to understand that it might be a little bit hard for you to organize all of these... I think, if not all, most of all applicants are super competitive, and I don’t really know what’s my chance of getting in, and I don’t really know what kind of students the Ed school would prefer as my background is not related to education at all except several volunteering experiences.....
