  1. I talked with several PhD students and most of them said that you should at least try to negotiate. Obviously you can't just go around saying "give me more money" but you can ask in a more polite manner. A PhD student I know said that he mailed couple of universities and asked: "I would love to study here at Y, but I also got an offer from X. Could you match this?" or something along these lines. You can also emphasize that you're dependent on this funding. In short, I'd say go for it, there's no harm in asking -as long as you ask in a direct but polite manner- since these packages (to my knowledge) are more or less same for 4-5 years.
  2. Well I have no idea tbh. But I'd assume it is a rejection. Though maybe if you don't get an official rejection by the end of tomorrow they're still considering you as a candidate? That's what I'm guessing at least, there is no way to know for sure.
  3. I have just contacted the DGS at Stony Brook, if anyone was wondering he said that there were 70+ applicants and they picked 6 out of that 70. I don't know if that 6 includes the people who have been waitlisted though.
  4. I wanted to ask people who got rejections, have you contacted the school about your application after you got the result? I know they'll probably send some generic response, but maybe they'll share how many people applied this year and the size of their cohort? Does asking this normal?
  5. Oh I see, I'm just hoping they release results later for the people who applied after the priority deadline.
  6. Hey congrats! May I ask if you applied before the priority deadline?
  7. Just got an email saying to check the portal. Portal said rejected and that this decision only reflects how tight the competition was this year. Also that they believed I'll get accepted to my other applications with such excellent qualifications (lol). Was one of my top choices, quite bummed.
  8. Got an official rejection from Stony Brook (SUNY)
  9. Claiming Rochester rejection! I guess they will keep coming this week
  10. Hey! Thanks for the info and congrats on your admit! Do you know if there's a difference between fast-track phd and a regular one in terms of receiving results? Also did you apply before the priority deadline?
  11. One of them claims to be a fast-track phd admit, I have no idea what that is but maybe they receive results earlier? Well my portal still says awaiting decision so fingers crossed! I was unable to apply before the priority deadline as well, hopefully that won't affect my application very much
  12. I am still waiting! There are 3 posts on the results page but I don't remember anyone claiming admit here on the forum.
  13. Most universities waive TOEFL if you have a bachelors or masters in English, don't they? That was the case for me, I didn't send TOEFL to any schools as far as I remember.
  14. I'd say my GRE scores are decent although far from perfect (V161/Q160/W4.0) but it seems like I will get rejections from all the schools I have applied (except for UAlbany, and I might not get funding so basically that is the same as a rejection for me). So I believe GRE didn't really matter that much, this year at least, from my experience. I think what mattered the most was SoP's and how people managed to convince the faculties that their research interests are a great fit. Edit: My low undergrad score and the lack of any TA or RA experience also had an effect on my rejections, however I believe SoP's were still the most crucial item this cycle.
  15. Also I want to ask a general question to people who are waitlisted: are you all waitlisted for funding, or waitlisted for admission (if such thing exists)? Because if it's the first case then I'll still have a bit of hope left from my other applications
  16. Hey! I think it's okay to contact them and signal your enthusiasm! I am also waitlisted for funding and I even asked if it was possible to learn where I am in the list! Maybe don't do that last part (lol) but definitely contact them.
  17. I honestly don't understand why they don't send rejection mails right away and make us wait for days even after they send acceptances to other applicants. I mean, rejection mails should be the same so it should be easy to just automate them and send them right?
  18. I've seen some people claiming acceptance from University of Georgia but I can't recall if anyone here claimed it. Does anyone claiming University of Georgia admit?
  19. congrats! did they reach you via email?
  20. Well I hope not ? I have seen couple of Stony Brook claims here so maybe we should consider that as a rejection. However I don't think we should rule out Penn State just yet as only one person claimed acceptance here and that was via informal email. A friend of mine also told me that not getting an email is not necessarily a rejection, but it can be that if you're on the waitlist (not for funding but for acceptance) they won't contact you right away. I personally hope that is the case, although I don't know if such waitlists for acceptances actually exist. I can also be just that my friend was trying to cheer me up
  21. Hahah can't beleive I didn't see that! Thanks!
  22. That's true. What I meant was waiting for results, as someone who is already on a waitlist I know the feeling.
  23. I really need to ask this, I keep seeing people having stuff like "1a/0w/r" on their profile and I have no idea what it is. I tried to search for it but couldn't find anything ? Can someone tell me what it is?
  24. NYU is my top choice! Probably not going to happen though. The competition is very high there and my scores etc. are just not good enough. Still, I'd welcome any rejection rather than waiting at this point.
  25. Thanks! I don't have any educational background on political psychology, so my chances are probably very low. But fingers crossed!
