  1. Thanks for sharing! We have Emory’s CL and Duke’s Lit in common. Heard back from nowhere, and I’ve kinda given up hope but have not been able to move on.. won’t go into my history here; have interests in psychoanalysis, Heidegger, theories of subjectivity, poetry and philosophy, and subaltern literature. best to all!
  2. Hey @semiotic_mess, thanks for this! Do you mind posting this on the comp lit thread...? I am sure people would want to know!!
  3. I am sorry to hear that! Wish you my best for this cycle.. hang in there!!
  4. Also applied to Stanford’s modern thought and literature...
  5. Hey, how standard is an interview for Irvine’s CL? I applied, and never heard back. Great fit, great correspondence, hence great expectations.... ?
  6. I doubt that the UC system stands for most or all public universities in the US. I know an enormous amount of internationals attending several of the latter across the country; even the UCs have only lately become something like an exception.
  7. Berkeley has been plagued by massive funding issues in recent years, but the one thing it seems to have in common with other UCs is that, it is particularly close-fisted when supporting international scholars.
  8. No problem! Thanks for the clarification. ?
  9. UCI english/comp lit/both?
  10. Incredibly resourceful! Thanks a ton, @semiotic_mess!
  11. I think we have to take into account the fact that this cycle is poised to be exceptional in more ways than one: talk about cohort size, funding, delays... My guess is it does not conduct an interview for every admit, like many other schools and programs.
  12. I’m dying to know, so it’s easy enough to just reach out to the dgs-cum-POI (not at UTA), right? Wrong. Once I know that which I dread... all hopes down the toilet. So here’s to the dreamer in me...! ??
  13. Haha... don’t we all..! All best!
  14. I am not. But I didn’t think UTA results were out....
  15. I second this! In my understanding, most schools review applications within a certain timeframe (Jan/Jan&Feb, etc.) irrespective of when the deadline for submitting them is.
  16. Anyone here claiming acceptance to UIUC English? May I ask if you were interviewed?
  17. I will do that. Thanks!
  18. So apparently two points of concern here: a. How routine is an interview before being accepted for PhD programs in English? b. With January past, is there still time to be invited for an interview? Inputs are heavily appreciated!
  19. For the record, not all acceptances follow an interview! the phd program I was in at nyu never interviewed me or a couple of my other classmates. But the rest were.
  20. And this from Princeton English, btw: “..we go through several committees, and the process takes a little while; in the past, things (generally) aren’t finalized until late February or early March.” (history as reflected on the Results here confirms as well)
  21. Oh I feel so much better (that is, relieved)... knowing (that is, inferring from the first and only rejection so far) that I don’t stand a chance....! Lol good question, btw.
  22. Thanks for sharing! I am a fan of people who do things because they love to, and not because of how it looks.. Imo imposter syndrome pays no mind to how old or young one is. I for one shall know, that if this cycle doesn’t work out for me I have been playacting all this while! Good luck! I’m rooting for you!
  23. I feel this is incredible and inspiring!
  24. I am sorry...! But at least you know I’m sure, it’s too bad for too many others as well....
