SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024

Nothing for me yet. The people I know who have received results seem to be mostly in the humanities. -

You didn't apply to the wrong one lol. I think they'll just convert it. You might have to email them. -
SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024

Probably different committees and criteria from year to year (I notice the areas of focus change). As for CGS-D vs SSHRC Doctoral, our applications are submitted to both, but I know that you can't hold CGS-D at an institution outside of Canada. Someone I know was awarded the CGS-D tonight, but isn't at Canadian institution, so I'm guessing it'll be converted to a SSHRC Doctoral. -

2022 Application Thread for Communications Program

When you log into the portal, click on "My Applications" in the top-right corner of the page. It says the status of my application is "Denied." However, the landing page when I log into the portal still says the committee is finalizing their decision. Still no other communications from them. -

Yeah, the UC's have notoriously bad funding for grad students. As much as I would prefer to be in California, I refuse to go into debt for a PhD and I also don't want to suffer through trying to make ends meet. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about the offers you've received! -

Ahh, thanks for the heads-up on both Rutgers and NW. If you don't mind sharing, what kind of financial offers are you all getting? Mine have all been 5yrs, 28-33k/yr, 1/2yrs covered by fellowship. -

Thanks! TBH, I spent little to no time adapting my personal statement to the 2-3pg essay. It was somewhat childish and petty of me, but I thought it was a weird "ask" considering every other program just wanted a straightforward SOP. Leaning towards Cornell/UMich, but still holding out hope for UCI, UCSC, and possibly Rutgers (since I've seen acceptances and rejections, but only silence on my end so far). I'm also pretty sure that Northwestern MTS will reject me. I'm hoping you all get in to the schools you're waiting on! -

I'm still holding out hope for NYU MCC, but I think/hope the department might be busy handling more important things re: Prof. Chakravartty's recent letter. -

Btw @THenri, was your Northwestern MTS email from POI or from dept? I didn't get invited to interview so I've already counted myself out, but interested nonetheless. -

I applied to NYU, also student of colour (don't know if I reported that though tbh), but have not received an invite. Might be a good sign? I don't know if they typically do interviews though. -

Cornell interviewees: Are you meeting with each of your contacts separately or all together? Does anyone know if these are formal/informal? Also, good luck! -
Seeing as you're an international student, I would ask about whether they cover non-resident tuition throughout the degree, and I would ask about grad housing (not sure how exp cost of living is in Boulder). I'm also int'l and I decided I wouldn't consider a program that doesn't cover me entirely for 4/5 years (fellowships + guaranteed employment + tuition + non-resident tuition).

Human geog. I would assume interviews concluded at this point.

Just Berkeley for an interview - no clue how to gauge how it went. It was less than 20 mins. Re: Wisc Madison. I don't think they typically interview. None of the grad students that I talked to mentioned having done one. Before applying, though, I contacted a few profs via email and spoke with them over Zoom to chat about ideas and confirm fit.

Berkeley (interviewed 2 weeks ago, but wasn't the poster from results page) UCLA Wisconsin-Madison U of T Haven't heard back from any of these places. Spoke with multiple potential supervisors in Dec/Jan - more apps than most years, but accepting "regular" amount of PhDs.
