  1. Now that most accepts/rejects have gone out, just a friendly plea to anyone sitting on offers they *know* they won't be accepting to please notify departments as soon as possible. Most departments have had to downsize cohorts so there are much larger wait-lists this year -- and many people still hoping for spots to open up! Hope everyone is holding up alright. Be well!
  2. This a great point. Also "full funding" can vary at each institution in terms of RA or TA workload. The use of "full" further implies that the recipient should be exceedingly grateful when in reality you're accepting a salary that is basically non-negotiable for 5 years.
  3. Thanks for the update Hope you ended up somewhere you're happy with!
  4. Is anyone who has been accepted to UChicago considering rejecting the offer? Or if you're opting out of the waitlist because of other acceptances?
  5. Did anyone not get an acceptance OR rejection yet from UChicago? ?
  6. I also emailed the administrator and got the same response - might check with my POI today too. Keep you posted!
  7. Not yet...on pins and needles. But one of the administrators did say it would be another week or so, and that was last Thursday so still hopeful.
  8. Hi there My suggestions: 1. Ask your advisor, PI or colleagues from your former department to review in relevant journals. For example, the journal of Ethnic and Racial Studies always publishes book reviews, as do many other journals. Similarly, reviews are sometimes published in more mainstream media like Jacobin, e-flux, etc. 2. Reach out to other scholars working in a similar field. Perhaps there's someone you cited a lot or who is doing research on a similar subject? Again, they might be interested in critically engaging with your work. 3. Get your book on a syllabus or two. Contacting friends who are teaching and see if they'd like to include a chapter, join a Facebook or social media group for researchers in a similar field and make a free copy available to them. The more your book circulates, the more likely someone will want to review it. But what do I know, I'm not even in a PhD program. Good luck!
  9. It seems odd for acceptances or rejections to come out on a Saturday. I'm skeptical unless someone can claim the Stanford acceptances?
  10. Whew! Thanks for coming through with the update so quickly. I hope you're accepted just on the merit of reconnaissance. Also a good reminder that this cycle (and next one) will be particularly challenging in terms of funding and over subscription. Fingers crossed! ?
  11. I was debating the same thing. Might be worthwhile to check and see if he/she/they know if all the offers have gone out, and gives you an opportunity to also ask for feedback if your application wasn't successful. Keep us posted if you do!
  12. I also interviewed at Chicago last week and was told 2-3 weeks, but seems like they've sent out unofficial offers sooner...didn't get one Based on past years, it looks like most of the acceptances are sent out in one day.
