Hey, thanks for letting me know! I have gotten zero transparency throughout this process so I appreciate you passing the info you got along!

So I have a similar issue. I was waitlisted at NYU and accepted at The New School and my deadline to accept my place at The New School was May 3rd. Since NYU was my top choice, I emailed with an admissions officer to find out whether I would hear back about the waitlist before May 3rd and he said the deadline for the original admitted people to get back to them was April 15th, so I should hear back between then and May 3rd. About a week before the deadline I emailed again to check in and he said that they had given an extension and the initial accepted students were now getting back to them on May 1st so hopefully they would have more info on May 2nd. May 2nd rolled around and still nada. I even tried calling and they didn't have any info for me. I just sent another follow-up email so I'll let you know if I get any more info from that. I ended up accepting my place at the New School but I still think I would forgo my deposit and switch to NYU if I got in.

Well, I don't know how helpful this is because I've only been to Philadelphia a couple of times, but it's a really cool city and seems to have a lot of art in general as well as a decent theatre scene. I would dampen your expectations a little in terms of proximity to New York just because the people I know who live there don't make the trip to the city very often. Then again, that is just my experience and yours could be totally different! Anyway, congrats on getting into both schools and good luck with your decision!

Alright ya'll, got rejected from BU today so I've finally heard from all the schools I applied to! I am waitlisted at NYU, so if anyone is in there and decides not to go, I would suuuuuper appreciate you letting me know! Good vibes to all!

@MischiefNotManaged that is so horrible and I am so sorry! I would take it as a sign that they are definitely not the right school for you if they're going to pull that shit. That makes me so angry but I also feel glad there's no chance I end up going there. Anyways, there's a better place out there for you, I'm sure of it!

That letter kind of tricked me tbh. Last year when I got such a nice letter I thought for sure I should apply again even though Hunter was not one of my top choices because she seemed so genuinely enthusiastic. Now that I've gotten pretty much the exact same letter this year, I feel like they just used that to get me to apply again and pay them more money. Anyway, I just want to say for first-time appliers, apply to schools you genuinely want to go to, don't just do it because you feel like you're likely to get in from a nice-sounding rejection letter.

Just got rejections from Columbia and Hunter. At least that's closure!
-
Oh no, I'm so sorry! Still nothing for me from them-- what is going on over there?!
-
I haven't heard anything either, but what I find weird about this is that no one on here has even gotten an interview request? Their deadline was like a month later than all the other schools so I'm thinking maybe they actually haven't started doing interviews yet? It just seems unlikely that no one on here would even get an interview. Unless they don't do interviews? Idk it's all very anxiety-inducing I agree.

Has anyone here gotten interviews at BU or Hunter?

Waitlisted at NYU! They say it's not very long so I've got my fingers crossed! On another note, I got into The New School, but they don't seem to be giving me any aid, only loans. I have basically no money so I was surprised at this and am now terrified about having to pay over 200K overall to go there. Has anyone else experienced this struggle or does anyone have any advice on financing grad school or convincing schools to give you financial aid? I am still waiting to hear from BU, which would be amazing because they cover tuition but obviously because of that they are going to be more competitive and idk I'm just freaking out about money guys! Anyways, fuck capitalism and thanks for listening ?

@broccolini That was beautiful, thank you ❤️

They told me they would let me know around the end of March!
-
Thanks for letting us know! I appreciate the intel even if it's not good news-- I'd rather just know!
-
Congrats CMU bound people! I'm wondering if anyone has heard from Columbia? Last year I got an interview request from them on March 1st so I was expecting them to be on a similar timeline this year.
-
Thanks, that's useful information! I got a NYU interview request last night, so I guess they don't send all the requests out at once! Has anyone interviewed there before or does anyone know what to expect?
-
I haven't heard back from Brown either! I didn't apply to Brooklyn though so I can't be any help there.

Got accepted to The New School this morning and also just got a rejection status update from Yale. I was totally expecting to be rejected from Yale because my application for them was a mess, but I'm curious because in the letter they said they encourage me to apply again after gaining more professional experience. Just wondering if they tell that to everyone they don't accept or if it genuinely means I need more professional experience. Would love to know if anyone else got that update from Yale today! Also congrats everyone on the interviews!

Got my second rejection email from Carnegie Mellon and this year's was exactly the same wording as last year's! Oof.
-
Hey everyone! Thought I'd post a Fafsa reminder since I didn't realize until today that Columbia's is due tomorrow! This is my second year applying and I am much less organized than the first year (I guess I'm trying to be more go with the flow haha.) Anyway, I don't think anyone else applied to The New School's MFA in Contemporary Theatre (that program is replacing their previous playwriting MFA) but just in case it's useful, I had an interview/portfolio conference with them last week which felt super early! Best of luck to you all!
-
Is anyone else applying to Carnegie Mellon? I noticed on their website it says their Statement of Intent should be 2-3 pages but on the Grad CAS application portal it says it has to fit on one page so I'm just a little confused about that.
-
I have from the research I did last year that they take 4-5, so unless they've changed it since then that should probably be accurate.
-
Oh no, that totally sucks I'm so sorry! I'm not sure why they changed it so dramatically, maybe they felt like they didn't have enough time to decide last year.
-
Anyone else have a crazy week this week submitting UCLA, NYU Tisch, and The New School?
-
I am also applying again for the second year, and I was planning on telling my rec writers that they can submit the same letter. I feel it would be an unnecessary inconvenience for them to ask them to write new letters, especially considering that I highly doubt they were the reason I didn't get into many schools. I don't know whether this is useful information for newcomers but I'll throw it out there, I was interviewed and waitlisted at Pace university in April. They told me I was off the waitlist 2 months later in June and gave me only a week to decide whether to accept or not. I ended up deciding not to accept based on the interview I had where it felt like I was being talked over as well as some interviews I read with graduates-- it seemed like they left grad school without a clear place to go forward, and that's not where I want to be after paying a bunch of money for a degree. Anyway, all that to say -- sometimes you really think it's over and then all of a sudden you get in somewhere and have to make a choice. I think it's all just about what feels right for you.
