  1. I actually studied Art History too!—but only as a minor; my majors were in the social sciences. I also didn't get the chance to take any studio courses whatsoever. That's why I'm really lacking in the technical proficiency side, which of course translates to the portfolio. But my biggest strength is definitely my critical abilities; I have a very solid understanding of my practice and can articulate very clearly how my work fits into contemporary influences in addition to being contextualized by sociological developments of our time. I really tried to emphasize that in my statement, and I hope it's enough to put me over the admissions finish line!
  2. Is anyone else here coming from a non arts-related background? I'm so insecure about my prospects... How tf can I possibly beat an applicant with a BFA when they've poured in four years of their undergraduate study to focus on their practice—meanwhile my highest level of art education was a high school class from five years ago???
  3. Thank you! It seems like I'm just waiting on my rejection then (since it doesn't make sense to send this kind of email to applicants at different times). Congratulations on making it to the interviews! I'm rooting for you!
  4. Omg. For which track? Did they specify that that number of interviews is for that track only? Edit: Nvm, CMU doesn't have tracks like other programs, my bad
  5. Was looking through old emails in my inbox because I'm bored and saw this email from SVA in 2016 (when I was still applying for undergrad), in which they infamously sent MFA acceptance letters by accident to people on the wrong mailing list ? Crying! How ironic that five years later, I find myself desperate to receive any kind of letter like this again. Hey, no matter what happens this cycle, at least I can say I've already technically experienced acceptance to an MFA program, right? Haha
  6. Thank you for finally putting this question that's been lingering at the back of my mind to rest.
  7. Btw, totally random general application question: you're not required to reach out to 'professors of interest' when applying to MFA programs, right? Because I saw that that's an established practice in STEM. Just seeking clarification since I never see anything like this being mentioned in the websites of MFA programs (if anything, they would just ask you to look into their faculty and maybe write about how your interest aligns with theirs). Thank you!
  8. Oof, I'm sorry ? Would y'all mind sharing when y'all submitted your applications? (CMU)
