  1. At the time I really had no ability to finance the program, so I told them that Im very grateful for their scholarship offer but it really isnt possible for me to commit to their program with only 20%, and if it's possible to at least get 50 percent. Or if there are any emergency grants or funds available to me. I was firm and respectful. Really its just about asking!
  2. Just finished my UCL interview. 10 mins of presenting my work, 5 mins of their questions (why the Slade, what direction do you see your work going and what are you going to continue to explore, how will the MFA benefit you) and then 5 mins of my questions
  3. Good luck on your interviews everyone! this is my third time applying to MFAs In 2021 I got offers at SAIC (post bac w 50% scholarship) TUFTS (MFA w 50%scholarship) SVA (MFA w 50% scholarship) rejected by UCLA, UCL, Goldsmiths and Yale, and waitlisted at Columbia. What I learned is ALWAYS negotiate your scholarship. I started with 20% with most schools. Second year I retained my offers at SVA and SAIC, got an offer at NYAA with 30% scholarship and got rejected by Yale and Columbia. This year I have only applied to Columbia and UCL. I assume Columbia's a no go because I have not heard from them, but I have an interview with UCL tomorrow which I am excited/nervous about.
  4. I’m sorry for the bad news! I know its a very expensive school and I am still figuring out how I’m going to afford any of these programs. I have offers to Tufts, SVA and SAIC (post bac tho). I’m leaning towards SVA because of the city and the programs focus on building practical skills for entering **the market**. Tufts seems to be the most welcoming though Have you applied elsewhere?
  5. I just got waitlisted for Columbia Painting: check your portals for updates
  6. Same here! I know some sculpture candidates have been accepted and I’m wondering if anyone has heard from the painting
  7. Have people heard back for Columbia Painting?
  8. thats weird the deadline to submit my fee is the 15th, not the 1st
  9. I'm in the same boat! I think sculpture interviews were last week so if they do notify everyone around the same time then I wouldn't be as worried since it has not been that long since the last few interviews. The wait is tough!! Goodluck to you!
  10. Has anyone been admitted to Columbia painting or have any info on when decisions will be made?
  11. Nothing shows on mine either though, it might be worth it to ask either way!
  12. Yes; Painting interview were/are scheduled for 12th and 13th of march
  13. Has anyone interviewed at Columbia for Painting and Drawing? My interview is tomorrow and I would love to know about your experience and who you interviewed with
  14. Rejection from SAIC Painting and Drawing They did admit me directly into the Post bac program with potential scholarship. Has anybody here had experience with that?
  15. Thanks for sharing. I just reached out to them, let’s see! Where else are you planning to attend?
  16. If I haven’t heard back from SAIC painting after interview, should I assume rejection? Has anyone gotten a rejection for painting after interviewing?
  17. Has anyone been rejected from SAIC painting?
  18. has anyone been accepted after a not so good interview?
  19. Congratulations! When and how did you hear about it?
  20. Official rejection from RISD painting today, received an email to check application status
  21. I agree, it is the reality especially on the commercial side. I have worked in galleries, at an auction house and a museum and have seen this first hand. But there is enough of that there; I would say I think there’s enough time to get to know the brutal elitism that exists in the real world, or “the market,” but I don’t believe that either. Things are changing. The power that gatekeepers held is slowly making its way into our hands, the artists. Ive interviewed artists who are getting out of contracts with their galleries because they are able to grow their art and reach on their own via social media! Lots more people are skipping MFAs altogether and doing okay too. With COVID, everything is changing exponentially, but this movement started way before The art world can be gross. It’s terrible to hear about your friends experience getting paid with cocaine or another’s work being sabotaged. The reality is, these whole power structures depend on us. Without artists, there are no museums, no galleries, no auction houses. It’s about time they were reminded! I am looking for a place that values me...and those places exist! I’ve had different vibes from different interviews. And those interactions will definitely inform my decision. I do understand that sometimes our situations make it difficult to choose those environments that are less traditional or elitist..I’ve had to swallow my pride more than a couple of times in my work experience.. but I am finding that there is hope and there are alternatives!
  22. Ouf..I feel for you, that must’ve been difficult! I dont think it is weird to ask that question at all. If the phrasing was not satisfactory to them, they could’ve rephrased it and then answered (I’m thinking something along the lines of “well, i dont have a favorite part but i think the strengths of the program are etc..) I really dont get the whole scare tactic...as artists I think a huge responsibility is making art more accessible. I dont think this elitist power dynamic serves that at all! We are the ones who are committing our time, money and efforts to this 2 year program, if anything it is offensive to be offended by such questions! They should be welcoming any opportunity to clear confusions and highlight the qualities of their program, not push students away! I’m sad to hear about your experience, and it really makes MICA look bad!
