  1. @skippy I believe the offer you have accepted will be binding, and I have heard that it is quite difficult to extricate yourself out of an accepted offer. It doesn't really matter to the schools what preference you have for them, all they see is that they made you an offer and accepted it. For you, Michigan may be a top priority, but the schools that have sent you their offers don't know that. So waiting past the April 15 deadline for an offer that may or may not materialize in exchange for a guaranteed (but maybe lower priority) offer is not a good strategy IMHO. Even the ECE grad admissions office at Michigan understands this, according to the email text shared by @abhilashgujar.
  2. @oa97 Thank You for contacting the department. It is great to know that we will be receiving some closure to this whole saga. I am hoping for the best for everyone here. Also, as a side note, I went through the acceptances posted earlier on the main results page, and saw that most of them were for the CS side of things. Relatively, a much lower number of people commented about acceptances from EE side, so maybe we could see some acceptances from the EE areas. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Same, international student here. I don't think that MIT discriminates on the responses based on the geography of the applicant, and even then, Gradcafe forums represents too small a population to draw any accurate conclusions from. Whatever correlations we may see here are probably due to coincidence, IMHO.
  3. Has anyone received any response to their inquiry emails? I am an international student as well, and I have received absolutely zero communication from the EECS department. If any domestic applicant here could please call up the department and ask about the status, that would be great.
  4. @hunter123, seems like the Civil engineering dept is running on schedule, as a bunch of decisions were made in the past few days. No idea why the EECS department is being so late. Last year (and the year before that), all the admits and rejections were sent out by the end of the 3rd week of Feb. We are nearly 3 weeks beyond that. Sure, delays due to Covid are to be expected, but it seems like Covid related delays have hit the EECS department admissions committee disproportionately. Again, I am going to hold out hoping for an admit until I get formally get rejected, but the deadlines for accepting other offers are coming closer and I don't want to stretch anything close to the deadlines. I really hope MIT sends out its decisions by the end of this week or early next week. Even a simple update to the portal or email would suffice as communication at this point.
  5. I have seen a few posts on the main results page where people had posted that they had been rejected, so if some of us were rejected by the admissions committee, they would have let us know. Since we are all still waiting for a response (and this is my optimistic side speaking) there is a good chance we are all on a waitlist in our respective areas of focus. I am just hoping that the majority of us waiting get an affirmative response soon. Also, to some of the posters who sent out emails to the university earlier, could you share (in brief) what questions did you ask and who exactly did you email? I too am thinking of reaching out, but unsure of how to do it and how exactly to word my email. Cold emailing people out of the blue has never been my strong suit lol. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out on that.
  6. Same here. No emails or portal updates whatsoever.
  7. Does MIT EECS release decisions on weekends? if not, then today and tomorrow are the only two days remaining for them to release the remaining decisions by their stated deadline. But then again, MIT has delayed its responses quite a bit this year, what's to say they can't do it again. I just hope they release their decisions sooner than later, because the anxiety is killing me.
  8. There are around 5-6 rejections posted for MIT Computer science programs posted on the main Gradcafe results page a few hours ago, but I am not sure of how indicative they are for the entire EECS department results. I have not been contacted by anyone from the department at all this year, which is really surprising, considering MIT posts (or atleast used to) nearly all EECS decisions by the 3rd week of Feb. I am not sure how much longer I should wait before accepting my other admits. If anyone has any other details from the Department or Graduate office, please share.
  9. Hello All, Has anyone here received any update on their application, either on the portal or via email?
  10. @kkdas088 Thank You. So everyone here who is waiting for a response should wait till March before speculating further. I am confident that many of us here would get in!
  11. If the final roundup meeting was on 3rd February, then I think the professors / department will take a few days to send out acceptances and update their website. I would suggest not jumping to conclusions immediately and waiting a few more days. Also, most of the posts in the main results list are from CS applicants, and hardly anyone has posted about EE admits. Considering the large number of MIT EE faculty, I find it hard to believe that MIT is hardly taking in any new students for the EE branches. What I think is going on is that MIT is simply taking more time than usual in considering applications, and that seems reasonable given the challenges due to the ongoing pandemic. Probably we can come to a conclusion about the admits by the middle of next week or so.
