My waiting is pretty much over. Alternate. Not the end of the world, but the end of feasible funding. There's only one grant of this type, and I'm fairly certain the winner isn't gonna pass this up. Oh well. Maybe the uni will give me some scholarships independently!

Hey everyone! I hope you're all dealing with the wait better than I am. I've been looking through the Fulbright google sheet, and so far it looks like students applying to Austria, France, Hungary, Iceland, and maybe Morocco and Romania have heard back. In all likelihood I won't hear back until April (based on previous notification dates) but the wait is getting to me. To make the waiting worse, the university I applied for with the Fulbright won't release my scholarship information until Fulbright gives me the finals notification. So I'm now waiting for Fulbright results and for the university's scholarship results to come out at about the same time. Eugh. Anyway. Back to my waiting I suppose!

Hm, I can understand why you may choose not to participate this year. It's a shame that programs need to stay virtual, but honestly I'm quite surprised that any are planning on going in-person. I'm sure there will be other opportunities to travel and use your language skills!

That sounds like a sign of finalist status tunes! Make sure to check your spam folder, several CLS emails got caught in mine when I was on the scholarship.

I'm sorry to hear that crackemon, but don't discount the possibility yet! I knew a lot of people who went from alternate to finalist, and some of those people even declined after that. Keep your head up!

Congrats, socrytes! I did Russian virtually, and I made some great friends and advanced from Intermediate Mid to Advanced Low- I'm sure virtual Persian will still be a great experience!

Hi rchow, hopefully it works out anyway! The timeline for the foreign student program is different from the timeline for the US student program, so you're probably right that you'll hear back in April. Best of luck, and be sure to update us once you hear back!

Tangentially related update, I've been admitted to the university I applied to for the Fulbright! Now all that's left is hearing back from Fulbright for the finalist phase!

Hi everyone! My gradcafe account was glitched out yesterday, but I've gotten my semifinalist notification for my student-study grant to Italy! I can't wait to hear more about your applications as well. Also @MuchSynergyWowSoIntersec, to answer your question I think that you've applied to the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, whereas I've applied to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The U.S. Student Program timeline is different to yours. I'm excited to hear about the progress on your application, though you have quite a while to wait! @birk3947, where have you applied to?

While I don't have any data or anything, just looking at the threads and hearing from my groupmates last year it definitely feels like there have been more rejections this year. I'll be interested to see how many people are actually selected as finalists- last year it was 666, 2020 was 252, 2019 was 545, 2018 was 555 (...why are they symmetrical? a secret requirement maybe). I'd be really surprised if they willingly reduced the number this year, especially since they've said they're focusing on online programs for this summer anyway. Anyway. Definitely a little disappointed, but we'll move on to other things! Time to start taking Middlebury seriously.

Not selected this time. As far as I can see this was my last year of being eligible, so it's time to move on to new things I suppose!! Thankful for the language gains I made last year, and trying to look ahead towards the future! I can't wait to hear about the finals as you all progress, and my condolences to fellow non-semifinalists!

Oh I really hope not! According to Umenohana's post in the 2021 thread the latest the semifinals have come out in recent years was January 28. I'm really hoping they don't come out that late... Maybe they'll come out tomorrow? Hopefully? Waiting for both the CLS and Fulbright semifinals has been frying my brain this month. Best of luck to everyone- both for the scholarship and for staying sane while we wait!

Much to my surprise, it's starting to look like we're not getting the semifinal notifications today! A watched email never boils I guess. Fingers crossed we hear back soon!
