  1. If it helps at all, I don't think its necessarily a bad letter (saw your other post). I think after COVID, a lot of PhD students haven't graduated or been hired, and a lot are still working on their projects, therefore professors have less capacity to take on more students, even though they are highly qualified. It's all really a gamble. Because of the COVID effect and hiring issues too (a sad trend from the last decade or so), I've also noticed a lot more incoming graduate students have either a master's degree (or two!) or full-time research experience for a few years, plus often work experience in addition, before getting into some of the top-ranked programs. It's really created a lot of unfortunate downstream effects, and most programs haven't returned to their original size (and probably won't unfortunately ). All of this to say, it sucks that a lot of qualified students aren't getting their dream placements and are getting the same offers from pre-COVID, despite taking the time to improve their applications the last few years. I feel ya
  2. This is what Columbia has said in reference to Masters funding: "Funds for master’s students are very limited. If you are offered admission to the program in Political Science, you should expect that it will be without fellowship assistance."
  3. columbia results seem to be out?
  4. I think the rest of the T10 are likely to be at the end of Feb/Beginning March, but its all kinda a guess this season anyways I suppose ?
  5. Did anyone else find the MIT application really weird and old school? For well... MIT, it was surprising that they made us copy paste our statements, individually send rec letter requests, and click on separate opening windows to complete each section
  6. Check out predoc.org https://predoc.org/opportunities A lot of the fellowships may lean into more economics or quantitative research, but plenty focus on political science as well!
  7. Any guesses as to what schools we'll hear from this week?
  8. Retweet, anyone claiming?
  9. Expect an Emory decision today!
  10. Chicago released around this time last couple years right? The silence✌️?
  11. a couple years back, michigan sent me a notif around feb 17, and acceptances were sent out a week or so earlier from what i remember. I'd probably guess around feb 10?
  12. would you all say the general trend is that results are coming out earlier this year than in the past couple years? or at about the same time/or even later?
  13. another day another dollar! hope the end of the week has more good news for people
  14. either that or i fr fr didn't get any notifs about anything ?
  15. do you guys think the troll is reading this page? earlier, I had asked when people thought the results would come out, and the next day coincidentally a bunch of results were posted (even tho the troll usually appears earlier in the cycle). and someone brought up that no rejections were posted up today, and then a bunch of rejections were posted a few hours later. seems sus.
  16. I for sure thought some results would be today... Jan 30/Feb 1 is my next guess
  17. honestly not sure... no one on this thread has claimed anything which is historically unusual. i'm not believing it until someone credibly does
  18. Same... I feel like if I know just one result, I can move on and be more calm ? but until then...
  19. do u think its the same troll every year or do u think the troll appoints successors ? so consistent
  20. Do you think we'll hear back from Princeton and Michigan anytime soon? usually they're at the end of the month right?
  21. Do you all think as many people are applying this year as the past two years (especially when the GRE waiver was there)? Do you think universities have returned their cohort sizes to "normal" in the aftermath of COVID/budget cuts, or do you think the smaller cohort sizes are here to stay?
  22. I keep hearing about how bad the academic job market is and it scares and discourages me. I really want to pursue a PhD in Poli Sci to be a professor, but everyday on Twitter I see people tweeting about the toxic academic culture, quitting academia for industry, etc. I'm very passionate about teaching but I had a few meetings with former supervisor and potential supervisors who kept describing how difficult it is to get placed at a university these days. I keep hearing about how a PhD can also prepare you for an industry job, but I already work in the data industry so it wouldn't make sense to pursue a PhD just for that personally. I'm just feeling very sad and lost -- being a professor, especially to be a mentor to other women of color, is my dream (especially because I did not have that much support in my academic career thus far). Does anyone have any advice?
