One school has already let me change the document. I have sent mails to the other three schools and hope that they will let me change it. The blurred score was not even that low, and my intention was never to hide this information it was just that since ETS (because of score select) was only going to send the highest score I figured that I would only show the relevant score date on the score report. I actually would have no problem in disclosing the lower score because its not even low, it was just not the highest. I hope the other three schools I uploaded this wrong document would let me change it or at least acknowledge the fact that the uploaded document was an honest mistake. Would this mistake be too severe?

Hello: Some schools ask for us to upload the unofficial GRE score report. The problem is that said score report contains all other scores and also score recipients. I actually decided to blur out all the score recipients because I didn't really think disclosing the other schools I was going to apply to was something I wanted. I also blurred out my October Subject score and left only my November one. At first I thought leaving only the relevant information on my score report was a good idea but now Im not so sure. What do you guys think? Was this a bad move ?

Not at all. It is probably just a typo and the admissions committee will most likely see it for what it is.

Hi thanks for your answer. I have already sent a mail to the school with the past deadline explaining the situation and hope that they will let my recommender send his LoR. As for the school with the incorrectly addressed letter I don't know what to do. I agree that it should not reflect poorly on me but I would definitely like to try to see if there is a way to correct the mistake. Has anyone been in a similar situation out there?

I am really freaking out right now. The deadline to submit complete applications for one school was today and one of my recommenders sent the letter of recommendation to the incorrect school so now I have two major problems: 1.- It is past the deadline and one of my lors has not been sent. 2.- The letter that was sent to the incorrect school was addressed to the school he meant to send it to. What do I do? Are schools firm with their deadlines? Are schools willing to let a professor resend a lor to correct his mistake? Any advice? Thanks a lot for your time.

Hello: Im really worried about the following problem: Where I am from we have two last names and I have mistakenly mixed them up on my application and GRE score. Basically I signed for the GRE tests with my second last name and I have submitted my first application with my first last name. I am very worried here because now I am not sure if the university I am applying to is ever going to match my GRE score with my application. I have already sent an email to the university explaining my concern but they haven't answered and their web page says that they answer in about a week. Should I be worried about this problem? I have other applications to fill out and now I don't know how to fill out my name so that the matching can be done. Do I fill out my university app's with my second last name as in the GRE? Is this a potentially fatal problem for my app's?

Well basically all 16 schools have programs that are a good fit and would be happy to go to if it was the only option. Some are dream schools and some are equally good schools but with lesser demand. Some are safety schools. This professor sincerely apologized when she told me she would prefer for me to look to for someone because of the amount of schools and blamed her very intense work schedule these days. In a way I believe her but I am not going to pursue her letter of rec unless it is extremely necessary. I recently wrote to a professor whom I worked for a summer with on a topic of research. He replied that it would be his pleasure to write me a rec. He is a slightly newbie in the research business because he just recently finished his phd (about three years ago) so he is not that well known but he promises to write a very strong letter. I have this other professor who has agreed to write me a letter but said that it would be based solely on her experience with as one of her students. It doesn't promise to be a very bright letter but she is a slightly more famous prof. She is actually quite famous but mostly to scholars in Europe not the USA where I plan to go to. So which one do you think is best? Thanks for your answers by the way.

Thanks for your answer guys. I am applying to grad school this year so in a couple of months we´ll see. I actually do think one should be able to get at least one great recommendation letter but three does sometimes seem like a lot.

Ok to be totally honest I actually made recount of the schools I included in the original final list I sent to the prof and got 16 schools. So she actually may have a had a point in her reply. What do you guys think?

I was thinking that most of us who are trying to get into grad school are actually looking for our first or second experience in doing research. It is a general consensus from what I have read in this forum that one should look for recommenders who we have worked with apart from a classroom. This seems a bit paradoxical to me because if were applying to grad school it means that we have not had much experience in doing research and is precisely what were looking to do. In my case, I have had one research experience and the professor I worked with has agreed to write what I think is going to be a very strong letter of rec. With respect to the other two recommendations, they are sadly going to be quite lukewarm "he was a very good student and got an A in my classes" kind of letters. It took me a year and a half of hard work to be able to obtain that strong letter and I don't see any possible way (timewise) to be able to gain another one of these exactly a year and a half after I finished undergrad school. So my question is how many strong letters of rec. is a grad school actually expecting from the students they finally admit? Would one strong letter of rec + 2 somewhat lukewarm one´s be enough?

Thanks for your response, I was actually thinking the same thing when I sent the final list. I have seen a lot of other people from all over the world apply to about ten schools. I really think that this particular prof was just looking for a way out. Hopefully I can come with a nice substitute. By the way what would be more effective: A somewhat lukewarm he took a couple of classes with me and got an A letter of rec from a somewhat famous professor or a very nice he was my Calculus TA and I am sure he will be a very strong student in your program from a not well known prof?

Yes I agree and I will not insist on her letter of rec. But after this experience would it be wise for me to ask the next professor I choose how many schools would he or she be comfortable with? My main problem is that I already sent the final list of schools to the other two professors, one agreed to write the letter for all ten schools (this is my thesis advisor), but the other has not answered and I am now worried that she may have also have been appalled by the amount of schools. I am actually really stressing out right now because I don't know if I have scared off my recommenders because of the amount of schools I put in the final list. What do I do?

Recently a professor who had previously, somewhat enthusiastically agreed to write a letter of rec. for me told me that she would prefer for me to look for someone else because I was applying to too many schools. She said that she is very busy right now and that ten schools would be impossible for her to write a recommendation for. I was actually very surprised to see this response after I sent her the final list of schools. I was never really worried about the amount of schools I would be applying to because I really thought that my recommenders could basically write a generic letter and upload this letter to each of the ten schools. If this were the case, then the number of schools I would be applying to seems irrelevant doesn't it? Is the amount of schools I'm going to be applying to something I should start worrying about? How does the process of writing a letter actually work?

True that. Nevertheless i will probably wait until i get my subject score before i start applying. Does sending an application early enhance chances of admission?

Hello: I know that most applications are now done online. The advantage of this is that one can start the online application and upload the documents and letters of recommendation as they come right? So I was wondering when is the correct to actually start applying to the schools i.e. obtain an account, fill the application form, send the gre scores, lor´s etc? I am going to apply to about ten schools so i would like to have enough time to be able to apply successfully to all schools but would also would not like to start the apps too early. Any suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

One question: I see that the fee to send scores is 25 dollars per recipient. I plan to apply to about ten schools for Fall 2013 (you know...to optimize my chances of getting in somewhere) and have to send my toefl, general gre and subject gre to each school. Suppose that I have already sent my scores to four of the ten schools I am applying to, do I have to pay 25 dollars for each one of the tests I have to send? That would be 75 dollars to send all my scores per school giving a total of 450 dollars. That is a lot of money just to send scores isn´t it?

I actually would like to know the answer to this. I plan to apply to a lot of schools for Fall 2013 and paying 25 dollars a pop is a lot of money .

Hello: I took my GRE test this Wednesday and got the following raw score: Verbal: 159 Quantitative: 168. I was wondering how much these numbers could change after the guys at ETS do their "equating"? Also do you guys think this score is good enough for my application? I am applying to Phd programs in Applied Mathematics. Thanks for your time .
