  1. Hey everyone! Quick question, for those that have done interviews, is it possible to ask how they usually go? Do they primarily ask about your research, or is there more?
  2. Oops - no, just saw that its across all sub-fields. Sorry. Guess its a no from them then ?
  3. Also, quick question, does anybody know if public policy programs have a very different timeline than polisci?
  4. @jjiffy@LatinAmericanFootball@zoooxu congratulations! thats amazing! If I may ask, whats your subfield?
  5. Well, it looks like Duke has sent out its acceptances. Congrats to everyone who made it! Im assuming rejection, but does anyone have an idea when they usually notify?
  6. True! its seems people posted results from different subfields
  7. You are welcome here hahaha The wait is driving me up the wall. Potentially the worse part of the entire process ?
  8. Congrats! Are you also in Comparative Politics? I applied as well (different subfield), but Im afraid no email yet
  9. Hi everyone. Claiming University at Buffalo acceptance, in case anyone applied. Hopefully you all get good news soon. Take care.
  10. Me neither. Maybe it goes by specialization? If I can ask, which field did you apply for?
  11. Hi everyone! I was hoping to ask if anyone had applied to Duke? I have seen some people posting about interviews
  12. Thank you! Sorry, I think the anxiety is just getting to me a bit. These next few weeks are going to feel like forever ?
  13. Quick question - has anyone here been called for an interview with Duke? I applied to the IR subfield and saw a couple of people got contacted
  14. Does anyone happen to know if Harvard, Yale or Georgetown do interviews? I cant seem to find it.
  15. Thank you so much! I really appreciate your reply and advice. You are right, and I definitely think I should retake the GRE to up quant a bit. I’m also going to be taking some online quant courses to try and build those skills, as it seems US programs are generally very interested in that and coding in R. The recommendation letters I had a feeling were a problem, so I will definitely take your advice and reach out to LSE faculty, and review my materials again. Thank you! This process has been very challenging, and nerve wracking if I’m honest, and I appreciate you taking the time to help me improve. Have a great day, and best of luck as well.
  16. Hi everyone! I have seen that after the end of this application cycle, those planning to reapply has been asking for advice for the next year, and I was hoping to become more active here and ask for your input if possible. I am an international student (Spain), and my profile is: Type of undergrad institution: European University – Excellent in Spain for business, rarely known outside of it (ICADE Business School -Universidad Pontificia Comillas). Major/Minor undergrad: Double major Political Science and Business. Overall undergrad GPA: 3.4 (tentative GPA conversion) *Note, I had severe health issues during my undergrad and grad degrees. I mentioned this when applying but am not sure it helped. Special Courses: statistics, advanced statistics, econometrics, research methods (all undergrad – not great performance – didn’t mention much in application). I am stating online quant course to better this section. Type of grad institution: London School of Economics. Well ranked for political science. Major/Minor grad: Political Science (Security)/Gender Overall grad GPA: 3.6 (tentative GPA conversion) GRE: 163 verbal, 160 quant, 5.0 writing. LOR: Two from professors I am currently working for as a research assistant (1 year). Both are well known in their field, but are in the area of strategic management and business, not political science. One from a junior professor that supervised my master’s degree – a political science lecturer. I can ask for additional recommendations from some other grad or undergrad professors, but I’m not sure if that’s useful. Research: Research Assistant (1 year), Research collaboration with university in Germany (remote) tracking a conflict, and some experience in student research committees (researcher, then vice-chair, then chair). Teaching: 3 Summer pre-college courses (for middle and high schoolers) at the CTY Johns Hopkins program. Subfield/Interests: applied this year as International Relations, but might switch to political theory. Generally interested in ethnic conflict and gender violence. Other: one presentation at student conference, quite a few published op-eds, 3 papers in journals (not high-impact journals, but peer-reviewed), standard undergrad and grad thesis (not published). Sub-editor at NGO writing program. 2 exchange programs (Us & S.Korea), 1 summer semester (Stanford). It was my first time applying this year, and I genuinely thought I might have a good shot, but have been rejected by all the universities I applied to. I clearly underestimated how competitive the process was. am reapplying next year to more places but am very nervous that I won’t get in anywhere (I feel that my GPA and GRE are way too low in comparison to what I have seen here). I also think fit was hard for me, as I really wasn’t specific on why each professor might be interesting, beyond a basic alignment of topics of interest. Overall, I think I was unprepared, and probably need to re-work all of my materials again. Still, Im starting to doubt if even that will be enough to get in anywhere. I really appreciate those that took the time to read this, and hope not to bother anyone. If I could ask for any input of weaknesses, potential routes of improvement, or any universities you think I could opt for, I world really appreciate it.
  17. Hi! Thank you. You are likely right, I genuinely thought of IR as more theoretical, because my graduate program in the UK was basically all theory, but US programs seem to be really different. I am thankful for the help!
  18. Thank you so much for the advice! I will definitely look to publish more and get feedback of the statements. If it were ok, how did you generally determine fit? In Europe we don't have much a tradition of that. I generally looked for them being in a similar area (conflict studies, ethnic politics, etc.) but think I maybe was too general.
  19. Hello! Thank you so much. I had a 160 on GRE quant, and I had the feeling it was a too low. I did business in undergrad (statistics, econometrics, math, etc - but didn't really highlight it), and didn't do much quant after that. Would getting online certificates in statistics or some form of coding be valuable then? Or would I likely need more than that? Im so sorry for asking all these questions, Im just a bit lost on how to move forward. I thought that maybe politics wouldn't require much math, but I think I was way off.
  20. Also, thank you BrownSugar and poliscihopeful2021 for your replies! If you would like to share, I would ask as well. Thank you all and best of luck in the remaining decisions!
  21. Hi everyone! Thank you so much for your responses. I really appreciate it! This is my first time applying to Phds and Im super lost. I think it might be fair to say NYU is done then. If it were ok (I dont know if this is the place to ask), _nutella_ and polisci123_1, can I ask what do yo think was your biggest strength when applying? I am hoping to reapply next year to NYU, its been my dream school for quite a while. I hope this is not a bother!
  22. Hi everyone! Thanks for sharing! Quick question, has anyone heard back from NYU or Georgetown Political Science in Phd? Im pretty sure Im rejected, but the waiting is the worst. Edit: Sorry! I have just seen some people have been accepted into the NYU Phd, was it into t the IR subfield?
