  1. Add it to your CV and email the DGS asking if you can update it for your application.
  2. My unfortunate anecdote for the day: Received a phone call from a PA phone number. I always figure these calls are spam so to not get my hopes up, I let them go to voicemail. The number leaves a voicemail. My heart drops. The voicemail was from a friend who recently moved to PA and changed their number ????
  3. Looks like UPenn is starting to call their admitted students. Good luck everyone! I hope that at least one of us gets one of those calls!
  4. I don’t think you can; they’re in no rush to up their price. Instead of doing that, they’ll just exhaust their waitlist until they find someone who will take it. Last cycle, I was accepted to one program. The stipend was really low. I was on a Zoom call with the DGS, and I mentioned the stipend (didn’t say it was low—just confirmed the amount). She then said that she knows the amount is low and told me that if I had a better offer, I should take it (not in a rude way, but more in a sympathetic “I know that this is not livable” way), but I should let them know asap so that they can give the funding package to someone else. She didn’t mention the possibility of upping it—just said that if I had something better, I should take it, and they’ll just find someone else. Basically, they know that there will be someone who will take it just to start grad school. Know your worth and don’t do anything that’ll financially constrain you. As you can tell, I’m here again, so I didn’t take it, ha.
  5. Still nothing from Brown. I saw the large pool of rejections yesterday. Do y’all think it’s worth reaching out to them?
  6. Good things happen when you remain positive! From the offers that you’ve received, it seems that your application is strong and this is well deserved. Good luck at Princeton! (Assuming this is where you’ll go, ha).
  7. There are two Brown rejections on the board. My portal is still empty. I don’t anticipate anything since they sent out acceptances well over a week ago. Does anyone know if they send out rejections in waves?
  8. Congratulations!! It’s so awesome seeing everyone land at their ideal spot.
  9. Hey! I’m currently waitlisted at CUNY as an early modernist. I’m hoping for good news because they’re my top choice!
  10. That makes sense to me. I also heard of the small cohort size. Hopefully we’ll get answers soon
  11. I first reached out to the director of graduate studies. She answered my message that evening and said that she didn’t know anything about the open house and that applications were still in review, and that she hoped decisions would be out in the next few weeks. She then CC’d the coordinator to see if she had any info about the open house. The coordinator said that the open house was nothing but also said the same thing: applications are still in review. Could just be the DGS not wanting to release a decision early via email, but who knows! I crossed them off my list a while back when those interviews started going out, so I’d be surprised if anything happens. A lot of the people getting into CUNY seem to be getting other offers, so I’m hoping my spot on the waitlist is up soon—staying positive!
  12. Nothing yet for me! Only the CUNY waitlist. I’ve heard nothing at all since then, and I’m still waiting to hear from many places. Did CUNY ever update you?
  13. I reached out about a week ago to ask about the random open house invitation that I got. It ended up being nothing, but I was told that they are still very much reviewing applications and hope to finalize decisions in the next few weeks. I agree that not getting the interview invite is a red flag, but I didn’t receive one and was told that applications were still under review. I guess what I’m saying is that they didn’t tell me that I was rejected. I would expect that they might say “You’re not on our shortlist, so unfortunately, you were not accepted” if the interview was a definite short-list mechanism. So, maybe not getting the invite doesn’t imply rejection?
  14. I told you. I knew you’d be posting an acceptance soon. Congratulations, friend. I hope you can sleep easier at night knowing not only that you’re going to grad school but that you also have a choice! If you’re comfortable sharing, what is the second school?
  15. I actually have a similar story: Last year I applied to Rutgers. On a Saturday afternoon, I was browsing the results page. I saw that two people had posted that their POI called them with an acceptance. I remember thinking, “Oh well! That’s probably a rejection then.” Ten minutes later, my phone rings with a number from NJ. I ignored it, figuring it was spam or something. I remember telling myself, “If it’s important, they’ll leave a voicemail.” Phone stops ringing and 5 minutes go by with no voicemail. I walk away from the phone to do something and come back and see I have another missed call from the same number. I get excited, and I’m about to call it back. Before I can do so, though, the number calls a third time. I remember being so excited. This must be Rutgers trying to get a hold of me, right!? I answered it, and it was one of those spam calls about my vehicle warranty. No idea why they called three times. ?
  16. Most programs will send out acceptances first. Then, a week or so later the rejections will be posted. This is because the program will personally reach out to those who are accepted, so the acceptances that you see are real (they’re just informal—that’s why the posters will say something like, “email from director. I was told that the official letter would come in a few days.”). It’s much easier for the program to reach out to the 5-10 people they accepted than it is to reach out to the 200+ that they rejected. So, those rejected have the unfortunate faith of waiting. When everyone else gets their rejection, those accepted will usually get their official acceptance letter from the school. It’s just the graduate admissions office processing the application results that takes a while longer. When you don’t hear back when acceptances get posted, there’s three real possibilities: you’ve been rejected, waitlisted, or the program is still reviewing and making additional offers. If rejections get posted and you still don’t hear back, it’s probably best to reach out then. You’re probably on a waitlist and have yet to be informed (this has happened to me before). From what I’ve heard, you (usually) don’t get a portal notification when waitlisted because the program doesn’t mark your application with a result and just leaves it open until all the spots for the cohort are filled. Stay positive and patient—good things will come
  17. Congratulations!! I’m glad the manifesting worked! Manifest, manifest, manifest!
  18. I saw the comment on results board but couldn’t understand what it meant. What do you mean by “fresh” waitlist?
  19. Ah, I’m early modern, so different fields! I reached out yesterday evening (like an hour after the notification) to rsvp for the event mentioned in the letter. I haven’t received a reply and I’m not sure if that’s standard when you’re just RSVPing ?
  20. I’m sorry to hear about your Yale rejection. I didn’t apply, but I know that they receive probably the most applications in any cycle. Just luck of the draw, so to speak. What is your area of interest? I know that we’re both waitlisted at CUNY, and I wonder if we’re both on the same list speciality wise, ha.
  21. Congratulations!! Best of luck to you! We were all just talking about manifesting positive thoughts and seeing this just personifies those thoughts immensely!
  22. Thank you! I’m not sure if the information I’ve provided applies to comp lit. Those were the details given in the letter I was sent. I think holding on to hope is always a good thing. I thought I was completely out of the running, but I kept positive thoughts and manifested good news, and I received a small glimmer of hope yesterday evening. Nothing is guaranteed for me, but I’m staying positive. Stay positive, friends. This process is emotionally taxing, but if you manifest positive thoughts, I’m sure good things will come.
  23. Congrats! I applied to Brown, as well, but haven’t heard back as of yet. I assume it’s a rejection at this point! It really is crazy that we can be in the same situation at one school but in a completely different one at another, ha!
  24. I don’t have exact information as to whether all notifications have been sent out, unfortunately. I assume that all acceptances have gone out, though, because it seems backwards to let people know that they’re on a waitlist before you fill up the cohort. You know? An important detail was that decisions are made based on speciality distribution. So, there’s a chance that your speciality is lagging a bit behind. You know? This tells me that the waitlist order is arbitrary. You can be at the top, but if the person who declines their offer is not in your speciality, that spot won’t go to you. There are eight programs that I have yet to officially hear from, but five of them have sent out interviews or acceptances already, so I’ve scratched them off my list. I think I have four real possibilities: CUNY and the three remaining.
  25. They said they received 296 applications for 16 spots and claim that most of their cohort comes from the waitlist.
