Omg congrats! Was the email from the interviewers?

anybody else hear back from Columbia sculpture?

    Interviewed...and heard nothing....assuming got waitlisted.......

  2. Is there a delay in Columbia’s decision this year? People normally received acceptance calls within two weeks after the interview from previous years. So far there is only one person got accepted to sound concentration. What happened to visual arts? Any updates anyoneI am losing hope….

Hey guys, updating my college decisions for MFA/MA Graphic Design:

    US

    1. RISD - Rejected
    2. Yale - Rejected
    3. CalArts - Accepted (Awaiting $ Details)
    4. SAIC - Rejected
    5. Pratt - Accepted (Awaiting $ Details)
    6. CCA - Accepted (50% $)
    7. VCUArts - Waitlisted
    8. MICA - Accepted (35% $)
    9. Boston University - Accepted (85% $)
    10. UIC - Accepted (25% $ and TAship for 2nd year with 5k stipend per semester)

    UK/EU

    1. Central Saint Martins - Accepted
    2. Aalto - Interview soon
    3. Glasgow School of Art - Rejected
    4. Royal College of Art (2nd round) - Silence
    5. Royal Danish Academy - Silence

I like all these colleges and I can afford to go into debt to a certain extent. I have no idea if my priority should be to choose a college which is the most economically feasible or the one which is ranked highly!

I studied abroad at CSM for a semester and I really liked it there. I think everyone is pretty talented and also the professors are well established too. But the education system between the UK and the U.S is very different. When I was at CSM(for fine art), I only got one class every week. It is mostly just you working on your own in your studio. Not sure about other majors, but for fine art it is literally just one class every week. I hope this helps.

good luck! i know you've been stressing so i hope all goes well and they let you know ASAP!

so its either a phone call within the next two weeks if accepted or an email if rejected right (also in the next two weeks)?

i hope they let people know sooner next year i cant imagine this anxiety going through all of march for me next year

Thank you for your kind words. They will call those people who got accepted first then the official letters will come the week after. I am not sure when they will send out the waitlist or rejection but those decisions will not be notified until April I believe. Message me if you make it to the interview next year, I will be more than happy to answer whatever questions you may have.

  5. Hey for people who got interviewed with Columbia around late February, we should be expecting a phone call from them within two weeks if we get accepted according to people from previous years. -__- Fingers Crossed for good news to come tomorrow or Friday. This whole process is nerve-wracking and I can't wait to get over it.....If anyone already got acceptances or does get phone calls in the next two days, please share them here...so I don't have to keep waiting.....

I’m begging at this point. Have interviews gone out for cornell. I have not heard anything and I wanna cry

I believe they did. Someone here already had interview with them back in February?

no worries i understand! can i at least ask if your interview went well?

Yes! I think I did okay. Definitely there were some questions I could have answer better if I wasn’t nervous….but I did my best under the situation. I think it is really up to them like my work or not……

I am dual citizen. Any insights into funding?

No. I hope I do. My plan is to receive multiple offers then using those offers to negotiate with the one I wanna go….not sure if it will work but doesn’t hurt to try

Would anyone be open to sharing a list of fellowships, foundations, grants to apply to and other ideas of ways to fund MFA studies? This is in addition to completing the FAFSA and CSS profiles. I missed the deadline for Fulbright and SSHRC but am wondering if there are other funding sources that I am unaware of for Canada and US? Thank you!

hey I am wondering if u are an U.S citizen? If so, how do you apply for Fulbright for schools in the U.S? Just curious, I thought it is either for US citizens to study abroad or non-US citizens to study in the U.S? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I can corroborate and say that friends of mine who've attended Columbia have said that the only fully funded opportunity is in printmaking and the scholarship name is the LeRoy and Janet Neiman Scholarship. It's because an artist LeRoy Neiman has a massive endowment and for whatever reason it goes to just printmaking applicants.

Funny thing is that leory Neiman graduated from SAIC I believe. He also donated tons of money to SAIC and I remember we have a building/gallery also under his name.

It's between Cornell and Rutgers (I deferred last year because I'm doing a Fulbright right now). I really love the community at Rutgers, and the current cohort (whom I met most of at interview day) are all amazingly talented. I think Cornell being isolated in Ithaca + small studio spaces is a con for me; however, they have more of the academic resources aligned with my studio work (i.e., I borrow a lot from the scholarship - books, essays, journals - developed specifically in one of the departments at Cornell). All of my current mentors/advisors for my Fulbright research are Cornell alums -but in anthropology, cultural studies, history, etc. (with some crossover to art history) - and are really gunning for me to attend. A colleague of mine told me to go to grad school for the connections with advisors, professors, mentors, and I think that's what I'm going to really sit down and think about as I decide... 🤪

Thank you for sharing. I was gonna do Fulbright with Oxford this year but I missed the deadline. I also didn’t receive any scholarship update from Oxford this point. I assume I will not get any money if I end up going to Oxford. I just hope I can get into Columbia with at least 50% of scholarship then I will be able to consider to do my PHD at Oxford with Fulbright💧

And my sister is an undergrad at Cornell now and yes it is a very isolated place and a good friend of mine just graduated from Cornell MFA also told me it is not a good place for your mental health…..🌚

Yes of course! So techically i didnt learn from the interviewers themselves that that it's fully funded, but I did learn from them that I'm in the running for the fellowship, which they described as "a special opportunity." it also sounded like it's only for printmakers. Later that same day, I spoke to an old acquaintance of mine who recently graduated from columbia's visual art MFA program, and they told me that the fellowship is typically fully funded, and is only awarded to a single student every year.

in hindsight, i could be wrong about it being fully funded if my acquaintance was misinformed or has outdated information.

maybe i jumped to that conclusion too quickly in my excitement haha. especially since—at this point—i still haven't even heard back from columbia. for all i know i might not even get in. so it's really totally inconclusive as of right now

Haha thank you for your reply. I also learned this from the current graduate who was doing zoom touring that one print media or sculpture student gets a full fellowship don’t remember which one is. Anyways congrats on your acceptance to Yale with possible full scholarship again!! I am just gonna continue waiting for Columbia. Hopefully good news will come next week💧

Got rejected from Yale, which I'm surprised by because I felt like my interview went super well. Sort of bummed, but getting over it because I do have offers from other schools so this made making a decision easier.

sorry to hear that but I guess you will be going to Cornell? And they didn’t reach me for an interview so I guess it’s a no. I will probably withdraw my application.

  15. 3 minutes ago, tmngc said:

Nor sure! Depends on financial aid I guess. During my columbia interview I learned I was in the running for a fully funded fellowship, which would be a huge amazing offer. I also know yale tends to be extremely generous with their aid, so I guess we will see !

Hey can you explain a little bit? How did they tell you during the interview that you are running for a fully funded fellowship? I also ask them about funding during my interview with Columbia and they told me that there is guaranteed need based scholarship but it won’t cover the full tuition. And yes Yale gives money based on your income and they will probably give you a full ride.

I interviewed with Columbia last week, so I'd imagine we hear back in the next week or so? Or at least by mid-March, I hope...

Hey me too… last sunday. They told me it would be this week.. I guess not. Anxiously waiting now…fingers crossed for both of us

Got word I have no merit scholarship from SAIC so no clue how I can afford that.

graduated from SAIC and that's very normal for SAIC's MFA photo program. SAIC's photo program is highly overrated, and I still do not understand why people think it's good. I would suggest you go somewhere else with more funding. SAIC's photo is not worthy at all.

ahhh congrats and good luck!! i applied also but have not gotten any updates yet so likely am getting a rejection. ? did you get a status update in the application portal or did they email you?

Hey sussy Thank you so much and I believe every concentration has different schedule. It is still relatively early for Columbia considering they have 1000-1200 applications to process every year. I was informed by email, and I have not checked my portal yet. If you got invited for interviews to Yale and Cornell, you should have some faith in your work! I also applied to Cornell this year and realized I made a mistake in my Cornell essay by mentioning a professor who does not work in the Visual Art department..........I believe it is a rejection for me because they do not have different concentration, so interview invitations should have gone out the same time...  I am wondering when did you receive your interview from them??By phone or by email? Thank you and good luck on your interviews!
