Sorry about not being specific. Here is the deal... I am a 31 year old who is finishing his degree in Poli Sci. I have some professors I am close with I can ask for recommendations. I have 3 really outstanding professors I can ask. The problem is that I have about 7 schools I want to apply to. Would it be too much to ask these professors to write 7 recommendations and just change the name? Is there a limit without being rude? I guess i am worried I am limited to the amount of schools I can apply to by the amount of recs I have. Is there a protocol?

Simple Question (Maybe), No where to ask this so I figured I would give it a shot. I had to stop and start my education for financial reasons. So many of my professors from 10 years ago can't give me recs becuase they don't remember my work. I have some amazing professors I know would write glowing recs. Can I ask them for multiple recs? Is there a protocol for this?

Many of us PHD hopefulls don't mean to ask these questions. There is no other place to ask. It seems a lot of the places one applies to are on almost a bell curve. What I mean is that many of them are based on who also applies. Lets say there is 5 spots. 20 applicants. They judge 5 people who have better GPA, GRE, recs then you...you loose...you could have a 3.8 and 700 on verbal and math...but if the rest have close to a 4.0 and 750 on each..you loose...seems that simple.

It feels good to see someone also applying. I am 31 myself. I have always wanted to go for a PhD in IR. I did not have the financial resources sadly as I became indepedent of my parents very young. I feel much better about my chances.

Hello All, Here is my situation. I want to apply for a PhD in Political Science, focus on IR. I have a 3.58 GPA undergrad, I will be at 3.6 when i apply to the various schools. I am a double major in Poli Sci and History. I have a good amount of research exp. For my history degree, we had to do a Research Prospectus, Lit Review, and original scholarly research. I can use this as a good writing sample. I am taking this fall a grad level Political Science Scope and Methods class so I can get some quantitative analysis experience. I have a 700 math 700 verbal on GRE. Have not gotten the essay portion back. I am looking at Brown, UConn, BU, BC for PhD. I do have one blemish on my record. I had to start and stop school twice for financial reasons. I have 1 incomplete my record. I have done my best to present myself as is. Any advice would be great.
